Summary

Dianne Duvall presents the eighth book of the Immortal Guardians series.

He awakens encapsulated in dirt with no knowledge of how he came to be there. Riddled with injuries, he can remember neither his past nor who he is. Nor can he remember what he is. But surely no mortal man could survive being buried deep beneath the earth. All he knows with certainty is that the soothing voice and presence of the woman moving around above enables him to endure the agony of his wounds. And he will do whatever it takes to be with her.

When Susan first sees the old two-story house for sale, such warmth and longing fill her that - against all reason - she makes an offer. It will take years of hard work and money she frankly doesn't have to fix up the place. So she can't explain why she bought it. She also can't explain what compels her to spend hours one night, digging in the basement until she unearths a man. A man who still lives and breathes despite having been buried alive. A man whose intense brown eyes glow amber with pain, declaring him far more than ordinary. Susan knows she should keep her distance. He has no memory and possesses gifts that would make most fear him.

But as the two work together to unravel the mystery of his past, she finds herself drawn in by his teasing nature and tender touch. So much so that she loses her heart to him even as they find themselves hunted by unknown enemies who are ruthless in their quest to capture them.

Contains mature themes.

Stanislav's Story

Well well well, in what feels like a mini detour from the overarching story, we find out what happened to Stanislav. I cannot say anymore without giving some of the plot away. The next book ....is ....Death of Darkness.
I cannot finish this review with once again paying homage to Dianne and Kirsten with thanks for the stories and narration.

Good story, well performed.

Good pace to the story. Kept me interested. Good humour. Voice actor had a nice voice and performs the different accents well.

Mmm! Not sure 😶

Not sure about this book. Having read the books that deals with the threat to the Gifted Women from an alien race first, I am not convinced by these titles especially as the narrator tried to do a Russian accent and sounded Scottish, Irish, West Indian and Italian!!!
If I had read this book first I probably wouldn't have read any more 😔. Sorry Ms Duvall

Another Gripping Addition To This Fantastic Series

I'm already a fan of Dianne Duvall's writing style and this series. I downloaded the narration along with my Kindle purchase and was gripped from the first page to the last.

Kirsten Potter's performance was, once again, outstanding. She is one of my favourite narrators; her range of character voices is extensive and her reading pace and emotive inflections transport you, feet first, into the story.

I loved Awaken The Darkness - couldn't stop reading and listening to it!!It had everything that I look for in a 5 star book; intelligent writing style that's easy to read, main characters with depth of personality that I can believe in, depth of character in the supporting cast, believable background story/setting and a balanced mix of relationship and/or romance to action scenes and sex scenes. I was left breathless, wondering where Ms Duvall would take us next in this addictive series!

Due to the graphic nature of the violence and sex scenes, I would only recommend this book to adults who are not offended by content of this nature, so if you enjoy strong alpha heroes and independent capable heroines, tense and often traumatic and brutal confrontations and hot lust/romance scenes then give this book a go.
