Story
Does the word endometriosis make you want to stick a fork in your eye? No? Then perhaps this book isn't for you. It's funny, and (sometimes alarmingly) frank. It contains an impressive array of synonyms for vagina and it's certainly NSFW. It's about having a devil womb and a hot knife lodged in a shoulder. It's about becoming blackly bitter and twisted in infertility, and then slowly finding a way to untwist. It's part memoir, part dark comedy, wrapped up loosely as a journal full of TMI and quirk.

Story
Drunk, dazed, disoriented, and stumbling down Clifton Street at 11:30 a.m., Effie is the kind of girl you’d likely avoid eye contact with while silently labeling a drifter or a delinquent. You’d probably pass judgment, assuming you know her - but you don’t know the half of it. As Effie’s life spirals through a mess of excess, drama, and addiction plaguing her at every turn, she has nothing to look forward to but a hangover worse than death itself each morning. Until one night gives her the chance to become something more.

Addiction, pain, and explosive tempers are not exactly what you’d call the ingredients for a side-splitting comedy. Yet Steven Adly Guiguis has created a profane, hilarious masterpiece that earned a “hatful” of theatrical accolades in 2011, including a Drama Desk award for Outstanding Actor in a Play for Bobby Cannavale. Stars the original Broadway cast: Chris Rock, Bobby Canavale, Annabella Sciorra, Elizabeth Rodriguez and Yul Vazquez.

Story
Antigone stood defiant in the face of tyranny. Best-selling and award winning author Colm Tóibín wrote this new dramatisation of the Greek tragedy especially to be performed by Irish actor Lisa Dwan. Pale Sister gives voice to Antigone’s sister, Ismene, who recounts her sister’s defiance of the king as pressures mount on her to act to vindicate her sister, or even follow her example. Pale Sister tells Antigone’s story through Ismene: the quiet person in the corner, bearing witness to everything.

Summary
Avalanche: A Love Story stars acclaimed British actor Maxine Peake in a compelling story of hope and longing.
When a woman rekindles an early love in her late 30s her whole life changes. Deeply in love, she and her new husband want to have a child together, and they make an appointment at an IVF clinic. So begins this story, inspired by the writer Julia Leigh’s own personal memoir.
This international co-production with the Barbican Theatre was praised as 'a must-hear story for our times' (Go London) on its UK premiere. It lays bare the daily oscillation between hope and doubt in a drama we can all relate to - about the dreams we have for ourselves, the hopes we have for our futures and the goals we have for our families.
Acclaimed for her 'capacity for emotional directness and a fierce, uncensored honesty' (The Guardian), Maxine Peake is a prolific theatre, television and film actor. Australian audiences will know her from her astounding range of work, including Netflix’s Black Mirror, cult favourite TV show Shameless and an extensive list of BBC dramas. Sydney-born Director Anne-Louise Sarks has been making waves in Europe, and this production brings her back to her hometown for her first work with STC.
See why these are artists at the top of their game, sharing a raw and insightful look at a universal tale.
Avalanche: A Love Story is a Barbican Theatre and Fertility Fest production, co-produced by Sydney Theatre Company and Audible.

The author tells a fascinating story of living through a maze of experiences, hoping to have a child. I was drawn in. The narrator was excellent and the sound effects minimal and well done.
