About this listen

Ever since he came out as autistic, Joe Biel has been contacted by people wanting to share their stories and ask questions. The most common question by far is: How do I find a romantic partner?

Dr. Faith G. Harper, author of Unf*ck Your Brain and Unf*ck Your Intimacy, joins autistic publisher and author Joe Biel to offer hard-won guidance on a wide range of topics about friendships, dating, and romance and answer a ton of questions. What do you want out of a relationship? What is the difference between flirting and harassment? How do you have a fun date and get to know someone when eye contact and prolonged conversation aren’t your strengths? How do you change a casual acquaintance into friendship or dating? How do you express your needs and make sure you’re hearing your partner when they express theirs? How do you maintain a healthy, happy long-term relationship?

Autistic listeners will find valuable answers and perspectives in this book, whether they are just getting ready to jump into dating, are seeking to forge closer friendships, or are looking to improve an existing partnership or marriage.

I found it really helpful as I was totally oblivious to many of these things both earlier growing up and even now as an older adult. If I could have read this as a teenager it would have saved so much wasted energy!

Useful finally that unspoken rule book!

The book is very candid and honest. And that's exactly what autistic people need. They need to know the impact of loneliness and the danger it can be to their lives. That's why they mention suicide rates. The authors explain how you can deal with situations in the work places, friendships, sexual partners. How to estimate and plan the time you want to spend with people you care about so that the autistic person can draw boundaries and have routine. They don't keep quiet about the fact that many autistic people have had to endure drama, that they are more likely to be used or abused compared to neurotypicals. They also state that we are often seen as cold or heartless because we don't communicate our emotions in the "normal" way.

I should have bought this book much earlier. I have read through countless books on autism. I am glad there is so much out there, that we are getting more accepted.

The narrator has a pleasant voice.

Candid very helpful handbook for autistic people

So it does have a few good bits but it pushes opinions of the far left & radical feminist agenda the whole way through. It’s not what i got the book for and I don’t care.

What the?!

I didn’t like that the audio book started by talking about suicide, not what I expected from the title and description. Had started listening with my son thinking it would be positive and focussing on how to thrive rather than suicide rates. Would not have suggested it for him had I known .

Not what I expected

She lost me by begging the question about patriarchy and privilege, which not everyone agrees on. When you bring politics and ideology into it, you risk alienating a massive percentage of your readership.
