‘Fantasy as it ought to be written’ George R.R. Martin

The gripping finale to Robin Hobb’s classic Farseer Trilogy.

With the king no longer living and the heir, Verity, missing and declared dead, Prince Regal has treacherously seized the throne.

Regal’s torture has left Fitz more dead than alive, and more closely than ever bonded with his wolf. All who once loved him believe him dead: even Molly, now pregnant with his child. But he cannot go to her without placing her in terrible danger.

With nothing to lose, Fitz sets out for Tradeford, where Regal has withdrawn, having heartlessly abandoned the north of the kingdom to the Red-Ship Raiders. His quest: to assassinate the man who has destroyed his world.

As the third book in the Farseer trilogy, you already know what you're getting into, and at 39hrs I thought jesus christ, there surely isn't that much to say? But I was wrong. Every minute felt crucial. Either for understanding the deep plot or for simply understanding Fitz. And Fitz? My god. I can't say what I want to bc of spoilers but just know I would die for him. I feel so empty to be parting ways with his story at the end of this trilogy but I'm excited to move onto the next in the universe Robin Hobb has weaved for us. Also, I love anything with a fruity twist and girl this was zesty from the get go. My imagination can fill in the blanks dw.

Now, the performance? Phenomenal. Like, actually phenomenal. Every character voice was clear and consistent, the accents were fantastic. Even the women voices sounded so natural. I loved everything about it. I did listen in 1.5x speed (bc girl has adhd so it's needed), but even then it flowed so perfectly. Ugh I could've listened for another 50hrs I swear.

10/10 love this series, loved this audiobook. Onto the next!

My God. Best audiobook I've ever heard to date.

One of the absolute best fantasy novels, though you have to start at book 1. It's one glorious, coherent, consistent and bewildering tale.
As long as Audible continues to re-record RH's works with the quality of narrators of Joe Eyre, I'll continue to listen.

Writer & narrator in perfect harmony

I’ve listened to these books quite a few times, and this new recording makes them even better, the new narrator does a really great job 🙂

Good

I’ve now read the first three Apprentice books. I found this one very wordy with nothing really happening. There were too many unanswered and unresolved issues. ( I suppose they may be answered in later books). It was all wrapped up in an hour with no real tension or satisfaction.
I enjoyed the series but if I continue with the next set I can’t say at this time.

Good but with reservations.
