Summary

STRENGTH, RESILIENCE, POWER

Strong is the moving and heartbreaking memoir from celebrity campaigner, endurance athlete, and father of an angel, Ashley Cain. Charting his daughter's birth and the fight for her life when she was diagnosed with leukaemia at 7 weeks old, Ashley reflects on his life and his own struggles since Azaylia's passing in 2021.

Ashley embodies strength and resilience - recently setting up The Azaylia Foundation and taking part in extreme physical challenges to raise crucial funds and awareness for children fighting cancer - so though Strong is a moving tribute to his daughter, it will also encompass the practical and positive mindset that Ashley now embodies, tying his emotional and physical grief into his extreme challenges, in order to provide inspiration and comfort to others struggling with loss and other mental health challenges.

Truly motivating

I used this book to listen to on my runs and it is truly one of the most inspiring and motivating books out there. listening to the hardships and struggles Ashley went through is devastating but his grit and determination to be positive throughout shines through.

I remember the days of Ex on the beach and it's incredible to hear Ashley's story.

Proud!

I didn’t know who Ashley was before Azaylias passing but I’m so immensely proud of this young man and all he doesn’t in her name. This book was so well read. It felt natural and authentic. Honest and raw. It’s lovely to hear him speak of Safiyya with such a beautiful portrayal.
Azaylia can be nothing but proud of you just as Aliyas will be too.

No shame in pain

Azaylia's journey captured my heart and I prayed with the world that she would pull through and be spared. I cried with the world when that was not the case. I feel sad Ashley feels shame about his physical reaction when Azaylia passed. No shame in that at all- he fought and fought for his baby and to see her pass away, it is no surprise to me his body reacted that way. The way Ashley reads his story is very moving and you can't not be drawn in to every word. I know Ashley doesn't think counsellors would help him because they may not have experienced his loss and I can understand his thought process. Please remember, Oncologists may not have experienced cancer themselves but they have the knowledge and expertise to help. Counsellors should not advise, merely walk along side you as you find ways to manage in a world that will never be the same again. Overall, I loved this Audiobook. It's a powerful story and Azaylia is still a huge inspiration for many. I'm glad Ashley has found a purpose and is doing so much good for childhood cancer. For anyone listening to this that might be put off counselling because of Ashley's viewpoint, please don't be- everyone grieves differently and finds support in different ways. Thank you for sharing Azaylia with us Ashley and may you continue to spread her love and light across the world. Let's go champ
