About this listen
His life is in my hands, but my heart is in his.
Miles Castillo has the one thing his mother never did: time. As he gathers new members to his pack and help in his war against House Bartlett, he can't help but wish that Cade was more than a reluctant ally. But the ice prince has made his position clear and nothing Miles can do will change the history that divides them.
Still, as they both confront the echoes of their past, they must learn to work together and find something like a middle ground. With nothing to lose, Cade and Miles must make a choice that will save both of them.

I really enjoy Kai Buttler as an author and have recently binged all of the books I could find.
The voice acting is excellent, with well defined voices for the different characters.
I enjoy both detective novels and urban Fantasy, so Kai's books suit my tastes perfectly.
Looking forward to what ever they write next.

The plot, generally, isn't likely to be that surprising to those familiar with the genre and is obviously influenced by the "Captive Prince" series by C.S Pacat (fortunately, Butler's efforts do managed to forgo the pedophilia, sadomasochism and unnecessary convolutions of "Captive Prince"). However, the quality of the writing, characterisation and reasonable pacing (a good editor would have improved the pace of the story) go along way to correcting for any deficiency in novelty.
It would certainly be my recommendation, for those interested in this kind of publication, to try books written by Kai Butler (I've, previously, listened to "Betrothed to the Emperor," part of the "Emperor's Assassin" series, which was hugely enjoyable and the second book of the series 'Emperor's Wrath" is [by me] much anticipated).
Of particular note, was the performance of Greg Tremblay who's narration was excellent and definitely worth being mentioned separately and specifically.
There are, of course, certain negatives, the pace of the narrative (as previously mentioned) and a very cumbersome moral allergy; these, thankfully, are small concerns in an overall good piece of work - not much in the way of surprises, but - quite alot of fun.
41/2 Stars - No surprises, but - Lots of Fun!
