Summary

This audiobook version of As A Man Thinketh is true to the original. Every word written by James Allen is spoken with clarity and authority by the narrator, making it easy to remember the information and absorb the timeless wisdom.

This short audiobook, originally published in 1902, has had a huge impact in the field of personal development. It is regarded as one of the most important books of the new thought era. It's written in such a way that makes it easy to understand the most powerful message you could ever learn.

The introduction of the audiobook summarizes the idea beautifully:

Mind is the Master-power that moulds and makes,

And Man is Mind, and evermore he takes

The tool of Thought, and, shaping what he wills,

Brings forth a thousand joys, a thousand ills:

He thinks in secret, and it comes to pass:

Environment is but his looking-glass.

Principles to live by

A good listen.

Short. Full of principles to live by.
Have already listened twice, and on second listen got even more.
I suspect that the more I listen, the more I will hear.
Highly recommend this book.

Great timeless book and very good narration

What made the experience of listening to As a Man Thinketh the most enjoyable?

I like the narration. I listened to several excerpts and this is one of the best narrations for this book.

What other book might you compare As a Man Thinketh to, and why?

This book is about changing your character and have it reflect in your external circumstances. I find it more practical than some of the other 'law of attraction' books so I'll even compare it to a very practical self-help book like On Form by James E. Loehr and Tony Schwartz.

What does Brian Holsopple bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I liked the commanding voice of the narrator compared to many other audio books I've listened to.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

school curriculum

Why this book isn't part of the education system here I don't know! Such simple logic that everyone should know before the age of ten. the world would only benefit in all ways.

Positive thoughts & self determination

excellent book which i found extremely relevant despite being written about 100 yrs ago. I found it an excellent accompaniment to Full Catastrophe Living by Jon Kabat-Zinn

Basic yet fundamental

Given this book was written in 1907, it has survived the test of time with a handful of other personal development books. I'm an atheist and books with a religious lean lose my attention very quickly. This book reflects the attitudes of the time so it has a religious tilt in the language used, however I did not feel that I was listening to a sermon. The basic message is keep your mind good and pure and serenity will follow. It does not define any of these so it can be interpreted using your own moral compass and therefore used by most. The only people who are unlikely to benefit from listening to this book are those with a moral compass that justifies things that you know deep down are wrong.

A Must Read

If our schools do not have our children read this book, we must. We must raise our children with all the wisdom available to us.

Clear and beautiful

Would you consider the audio edition of As a Man Thinketh to be better than the print version?

I love the comparison between mind and garden. How we grow has to do with what we choose to cultivate and what we choose to weed out. The message really resonated with me and had a strong immediate effect on my consciousness. We easily forget our own power and this is a good reminder, a small step back to get a clearer view. It's short and it is a pleasure so I'll probably listen to it again.

What does Brian Holsopple bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I think his pacing is just right.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but I didn't seat, I went for a walk, that is why I use audiobooks.

A book for thought

Eye-opener, easy read. Even though this book is written so long ago it is still relatable to today’s time. I listen to the book twice because I wanted to grasp what the book had to offer. It gave me better insight about myself. It made me think from within. I highly recommend the book for it’s forward thinking.
