Tara, Katherine, and Fintan, friends since adolescence, are full proof that eccentricity is the spice of life. Story
Lucy Sullivan is 26 and living it up (and occasionally down) in London. Hers is a life of quiet, undisciplined desperation. But when she and three friends visit a psychic for a bit of fun and the woman's predictions start coming true, Lucy is horrified. For the fortune-teller insisted she'd soon be married - within the year, in fact. Not only does Lucy not have a boyfriend, but the chances of getting one are looking slim. Between the bottles of wine, antidepressants and her addiction to self-help books, she's not quite ready to walk, or even stumble, down the aisle sober.

High heels, movie deals, wagon wheels, shoes, reviews, having the blues, builders, babies, families and other calamities... Many think that Marian leads a glitzy life of limos, television, and showbiz parties - but she would argue that she spends the majority of her life writing alone, wearing her PJs, and eating bananas with a laptop on a pillow in front of her. Under the Duvet is a wide collection of her journalism and stories, all personal, closely observed, and painfully funny...

Gemma Garvey’s marriage has been over for ages. And it was Gemma’s choice to end it; her decision to go it alone with two kids, rather than pretend the marriage to career-obsessed David was working. So why is she so upset when he marries that flame-haired bimbo, Orla O’Neill? Is it that Orla’s nearer in age to Gemma’s teenage daughter than to herself? But for Orla, being wife number two isn’t all she’d imagined. And the trouble has only just begun.

Story
On a Dublin city street, packed with afternoon Christmas shoppers, a young woman appears, naked, traumatised and bearing burn marks. Tom Reynolds, now chief superintendent, is no longer head of the murder squad. But when it transpires the woman escaped from a house fire started deliberately and that there are more victims, including a baby, Tom is sucked in. What begins as a straightforward case of arson, soon becomes something much more sinister. The people in that house never wanted to be there in the first place. Now more of them are missing.

To her younger sister, Tessa, Caroline O'Shaughnessy has everything - great looks, easy charm, and the distinctly desirable Damien Woods. But for Caroline, things don't feel quite so rosy. She'd dreamed about moving in with Damien but not about having his child just yet. And though he did the honourable thing when she told him she was pregnant, it obviously wasn’t what he wanted either.

Summary
Anna Walsh is officially a wreck. She's covered in bandages and she's lying in her parents' Good Front Room dreaming of leaving Dublin and getting back to New York. To her friends. To The Most Fabulous Job in the World. And most of all, back to her husband, Aiden.
But her family have other ideas (not to mention the usual problems that beset the Walsh sisters). And Aiden, for some reason, seems unwilling to get in touch.
What happened to Anna to send her so far from all that she loves? And what happened to her marriage that her husband won't talk to her?
Critic reviews
"The novel is a rare blend of genres, a richly enjoyable satire and an inspirational tale of one woman's triumph over despair" ( Daily Telegraph)

abridged? no, hacked to pieces!
the Walsh books are my absolute favourite, but I was not aware this was an abridged version and even if I had been, I never would have expected Marian Keyes' beautiful writing to have been decimated quite so brutally. All of the humor and a lot of the emotion has been ripped out of this book, and I'm actually sorry I listened to it as it's sort of sullied my view of the actual book.

Abridged
This is one of my favourite books by Marian Keyes but this abridged audiobook sucks a lot of the joy out of the story - no Helen subplot, none of the hysterical emails between Anna and her mum. Very disappointing and it should be made clearer that it’s abridged.

A new form of chic lit
'Anybody Out There' captures all the best of chic-lit, the romance, the femininity and (mostly) the humour, but this Audible version made all of those factors hard to appreciate with the terrible American accents from Niamh Daly. Her native Irish is stunning to listen too, and her reading contained superb emotions and reactions, but every attempt at an American accent made my skin crawl. They didn't sound human, never mind American! All in all, Keyes is making strides in the chic-lit department with unique, interesting and complex stories, but this version was hard to listen too.

A difficult subject, beautifully tackled
I haven't read the book (which I have now ordered) so didn't realise this was an abridged version. So I didn't experience the frustration of others who already know and love the story. Without giving anything away, in this book Keyes tackles a difficult subject, dealing with it sensitively yet with her usual humour. The bits I find dull in all of her books that I have read - makeup, fashion and the predictable bonking scene - are all in there, but this is an intelligent story that takes you from one emotion to another. This is a story with some depth, which many of us will be able to relate to in some form.

Returned
I bought this even though it is abridged (which to me is sacrilege, unless it’s Tom Clancy, then its essential!), as I have enjoyed the previous books (unabridged) in the series. However, I listened for around 40 minutes, struggling throughout and had to give up, it’s only about 5 hours long but life’s too short. I’m really sorry but I wish they had used the same narrator.

Wonderful
Everything about this book is outstanding. The storyline and it’s delivery by Niamh Daly had me riveted, it’s funny but very sad and Annas journey through grief was incredibly insightful. Marion Keyes you are amazing, thank you for another great story and Niamh thank you for bringing it to life for me.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
The actual story is excellent, this version misses a lot of important information.
Any additional comments?
I enjoyed it but not as much as the actual book
