About this listen

Somewhere just off the interstate, in the heart of the American Midwest, there's a quaint, quirky town where the stars in the sky circle a hypnotic void...where magnetic fields play havoc with time and perception...where metallic rain and plasma rivers and tentacles in the plumbing are simply part of the unsettling charm.

Mallory Jenkins is about to experience the unique properties of this place for herself - she'll have no choice, considering the collapsed bridge that rerouted her urgent and mysterious trip to Saskatchewan, forcing her straight into the heart of town, where her Impala has an inexplicable breakdown. She intends to stay overnight - just until the auto repair shop can make the fix in the morning and send her on her way. But Mallory will soon encounter Dr. Lewis Burnish, a scientist who's studied the town for a dozen years and knows more about its strangeness than even the locals do. And when she accidentally-on-purpose creates his evil clone, she'll set off a series of events that could unleash the ultimate evil upon the town and wreak havoc on the world at large. Life in a small town is like that sometimes.

Welcome to Anomaly Flats. Have some waffles, meet the folks, and enjoy the scenery...and if you happen to be in Walmart, whatever you do, don't go down aisle eight. Don't ever go down aisle eight.

Anomaly Flats, a hidden in plain sight town, a strange place, where weird things happen and everyone living there is used to the "normalcy" of everything. when the main character arrives there after taking a forced detour off the interstate then gets stuck in the mystery town, a series of events gets triggered by her inability to just accept the anomalies as they are. it was catchy enough in the beginning, especially the parts with the initial setup of the town, but i got lost a bit in the very fantastic plot with all the impending doom, taking over the world, and the clones conspiracy. overall, a quirky story, with a fairly entertaining main character, and some catchy elements, but i would have wanted things to feel a bit less random, less obvious, maybe more scientific and subtle.
good performance.

I added this to my library because I was just browsing the catalogue and the name caught my attention; then I forgot about it until a few nights ago. Once I had started to listen to it I had to keep going. The story about a strange place called Anomaly Flats where the place really lives up to it's name. I was expecting strange magnetic fields, strange encounters and the likes, and when the arrival in Anomaly Flats starts with the car cutting out, it sounded like I was on the right track - wow was I wrong. I wasn't expecting half of the strange things found here, I loved the twist at the end as well, I really should have seen it coming but somehow it snuck up on me. This is one of the audiobooks that hit's my regular reads that I can go back to time and time again. It really helps that the narrator does an amazing job of tyelling tyhe storty, conveying the characters, their actions and emotions so well. If you love things like The Twilight Zone, Outer Limits and even Eureka, I urge you to give this a go.

Twilight Zone with a side of plain wierd

I bought this on a whim while browsing for the second WtNV book, and let's get this out of the way from the start - if you're a fan of WtNV, yes, this is basically the same genre and the comparisons are inevitable. It's not a clone however - WtNV doesn't have exclusive rights to the spooky, weird little town in the back of nowhere genre after all - and Anomaly Flats stands firmly on its own two feet.

The narrator is great, the characters are not predictable stereotypes, and there's a thread of humour throughout the whole thing that in places actually made me laugh out loud. The plot really did not go where I was expecting it to, and that alone makes me strongly recommend it. And that ending - very good! :D

I'm really looking forward to the next book in this series and will definitely be picking it up.

Weird, fun and well-written

Started a little slow, but clearly that was needed for the story line; needs to be a film! Laugh out loud funny!!!
