Summary

My name is Quinn and in one night my life changed forever. I lost not only part of my family, but also a huge part of who I was. Struggling to make it through each dark day, uncertain of everything in my life, I’m barely living just existing until a professional suggests I start writing down my thoughts in a journal.

My journals help me muddle through the personal and emotional baggage. Allow me to manage the past with all my Anguish; to function in the present plotting Vengeance; and to hope for my Awakening to a future full of all my dreams for a better life.

That is, until my past comes full force into my present and threatens my future. And the only person who can help me is someone from my past. The same person who has been around in the shadows protecting me, even when I didn’t know he was there, apparently has always had my back.

Not For Me But an Interesting Story

This really wasn’t my kind of thing, I don’t know why but the story just didn’t resonate with me and I wasn’t particularly gripped. The writing wasn’t bad, but I just didn’t feel an affinity with the main character of this book. It’s a shame really because I was really intrigued. I don’t think its anything that Earl did or didn’t do, because I am certain that lots of people will find this enjoyable – its emotive, real and raw, what more could you want – I just didn’t for whatever reason.
I will say that I did like the description of the journals and the way they played into the story, the colour coding thing was an interesting touch that made me think it might be cool to do that myself. I don’t think I’d have the commitment though unfortunately. We are introduced to Quinn. She is the voice of the story, she comes across as a prickly character right from the get-go. Quinn is not exactly easy going but it is because something dark in her past always drags her back from the brink of happiness before she ever gets the chance to truly settle into it. And when her past comes to smack her full force around the face it's all Quinn can do not to unravel and round the pain.
Like I said, this has an interesting premise, and I am sure that a lot of people will find this enjoyable and entertaining. It just wasn’t for me.

An emotional story

Anguish: The Journals Trilogy Book 1 Audiobook by D.M. Earl is a dark and twisted story that certainly leaves you wanting more. I wasn’t sure how this book would be properly portrayed as an audiobook and I was really surprised by how well it transferred. The emotion and the mystery all came through so well and I was hooked on the story almost as soon as it started. There was quite a slow and methodical tone to the way it was told which made it really easy to picture everything going on, only for all of the emotion to burst out with the dialogue. When it got to certain scenes in the book I found my heart breaking for Quinn as I imagined everything she must have gone through. My only gripe about this book is that every now and again the narration felt a little robotic however it doesn’t really detract from it being a great story. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book and I can wait for the next one.

Anguish

The narrotor does a real good job of doing this story. Well done descriptive of anxiety. Past has caught up with Quinn Brother found her again the person that destroy alot of Quinns life.
Quinn running from her past

Walker is not a nice person he's vicious. He got worse over time. He's manipulation is beyond what you thought.

This is such an emotional listen. This is things that happen in real life it can be hard to listen to. The way that this is portrayed is one of the best I've ever know. There is alot of history and side effects from family history.

Quinn had to go through so much she still is traumatised till this day riddled with anxiety and PTSD.

Of you want a real good listen and read which hit home I highly recommend this.

Great audio book

This was a really interesting book to listen to. I did wonder when I read the synopsis how the narrator would get the authors words to come across as they are meant but I was really impressed. The story itself was really emotional at times and hearing Quinn’s words read to me felt like she was really telling me her story.
I really enjoyed listening to Anguish and I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.

A fast paced story

This book was very emotional and contains quite a hard hitting story line. I found the female protagonist a strong character despite what she had been through and although I didn't love this book I am intrigued to know if she does get the revenge she seeks. I enjoyed how fast paced the story was and found this helped keep me focused on the plot and stopped my mind from wavering.
My reasons for not liking this were mainly that as the plot was so hard hitting and emotional I found the racy, sexual parts out of place with the general plot. I also found that the sexual encounters were overly descriptive but that's my personal taste. I struggled with the narration as I found the narration strangely robotic but again that is my personal taste.
