About this listen

Is Mr. Darcy capable of wanting to marry just for the sake of love?

An unexpected meeting between Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet becomes suddenly and shockingly dangerous. Mr. Darcy is determined to protect Elizabeth, but his exertions leave him grievously wounded. Sheltering with him in a shepherd’s hut, Elizabeth tends to Darcy’s injuries while trying to suppress her concern about the impropriety of her circumstances, as well as the fever-induced proposal that results.

While they survive the imminent threat, others at Rosings do not, altering the fates of their friends and relations. The connection between them seems to have thus come to an end. Elizabeth’s emotions, enflamed by the forced intimacy in the shepherd’s hut, are aggravated when Darcy—now healing from his injuries—arrives to make good on his proposal. What woman wants an offer of marriage made in service to her reputation rather than to romantic love? Or was there love there all along?

An Excellent Walker is a Pride and Prejudice variation.

This story was great, a very different twist but relatively true to the characters and the personalities created by Jane Austen. The only draw back was the narration - not that all Austen should be narrated in an English accent, but the Hurtfordshire and Durbyshire pronunciations really jarred!

Would have been better with a different narrator

I love this book, I loved it when I read it and I still enjoyed it in audio form. I do have to be honest however and say that as a Brit I found the narrator's accent troubling. He had dialled his Native American back but the pronunciations of places was totally wrong (D-ERR-byshire instead of D-ARR-byshire and HURTfordshire instead of HEARTfortshire) also Mumma and Puppa instead of Ma-Mar and Pa-Par.

The quality of the writing drives this forward and I did enjoy it despite the narration misses. It is well paced,

A lovely story but not the best narration

I really enjoyed this. Having recently listened to a couple of rather dull Jane Austen variations, this was both original and funny. I liked the concept of Napoleon attempting an invasion of Kent while Elizabeth is at Rosings. I would like to listen to other books by this author.
Narrator was OK for a non-Brit, I agree with another reviewer that the mispronounciations of Derbyshire and Hertfordshire are annoying.

A shortish fun listen as Darcy and Elizabeth fight off French troops!

Lovely different version of the original and I was surprised how much I liked it .Don't usually like it when the story changed. French army landing may seem far fetched but I overlooked this part as it was written welk.

Different version and sweet

Firstly the narrator needs to improve his English if he is going to narrate British based stories. He messes up his E&A "s with the Americanism of Derbyshire calling it Derrr bish shire as in the US derby. Then Hertfordshire he calls Herrrt ford shire & boy it grated.
The story is sweet but a bit long winded so not one I'd want to listen to for a second time.

A nice tale of England during the Napoleonic War
