The legend of Tal Harrenfel has a new, dark chapter to its legacy, and its hero quests alone into the East.

Though Tal intends to end Yuldor's war himself, Garin and their companions follow closely on his heels. Elendol is in ashes, and its queen has been replaced by one sympathetic to the East. Too much navel gazing. With main characters displaying excessive and irrational remorse.
You could literally half the book if you took it out.
Storyline enjoyable otherwise.

Readers of LOTR stuff, Wheel of time, Dune and Kingkiller Chronicles will recognise various schematics within this series.
My own opinion though is that there's no plagiarism, just a decent enough story backed up with a solid narration.
