About this listen

When a strange child follows her home on the train from London, Ella Bridges feels bound to help her. However, she soon discovers the child is not what she seems. Having recently moved into a large home on Linhay Island, affectionately known locally as The Yellow Cottage, Ella finds herself at the centre of a murder investigation thanks to a special gift from the previous house owner. Along with her unusual sidekick, a former cottage resident, Ella follows clues that take her to the heart of London. As the mystery unravels she is forced to enter the lion's den to solve the crime and stop the perpetrator. But can she do it before she becomes the next victim?

An Accidental Murder is a novella set in 1930s England and is the first in the series of The Yellow Cottage mysteries. NB: this audiobook is based on an updated edition (Sept 2018).

Old world charm of the time and class when everyone had a Lord, Lady or knight in thier friendship group and when to dinner at the manor.

The story is good though, a few twists and turns and unlikely events but then again it features ghosts, so what would I expect?

Whimsical and dated but a good tale nobetheless.

Once or twice an americanism slides in, "Stoop" in place of steps, and another term not commonly used in England which I forget, but whilst jarring at the time... I can't remember what the other word is!! See - that insignificant on the grand scheme of things. Certainly doesn't marr the overall story.
A nice short story which kept me company too and from work. Nicely narrated, wasn't expecting the ghostly side of things but still kept my interest.

Not what I was expecting but I liked it!

A short book but good story and characters, with the ending setting it up for the next in the series.. The narration was great.

Good.

First time with this author. Light enjoyable mystery story.. to the end. Look forward to developing side-kick... Definetly onwards and upwards to book 2.

Re reviews on narrator
I find the narrator ideal/appropriate as we are told the story is set in the 1930's ...pitch/range reflects the stereotypical 'Jeeves Wooster' (1920-30) upper middle class tones we associate with the social order of this time and the subsequant characters we meet in this story. With regards to main character voice sounding older ..within this book we have incite into personal story.

Lovely enjoyable compact ghost whisper story...onwards
