Summary

Alastair Cunningham wakes up in hospital with almost total amnesia. But he knows that something terrible happened in his past, something that haunts him still. A young family friend, Clemence, is called in to help rekindle his memory. Retreating with Alastair to his remote cottage, Clemence finds a peculiar manuscript hidden away from prying eyes. Reading the prologue, she discovers a murder by someone very much like a young Alastair. The victim? Clemence's grandmother, Sophie. Could this kindly old man truly be a killer? Clemence becomes determined to find out what happened all those years ago, even if she must risk everything to do so....

I loved it!

I like the characters, the story was excellent and very well thought out with and interesting twist at the end.

There are a lot of people in this novel, so one has to keep one's eye on the ball, three generations and many friends - but it is skillfully written and I really couldn't put it down willingly.

Great "who dunnit"

Listen to this book with a warm cuppa and a glowing fire. You won't want to stop. The dreamy voice of Sean Barrett makes any book he reads easy to listen to as he creates his characters. The story was simple but intriguing. Eager to hear my next Michael Ridpath.

Yawn

I gave up on this one a few chapters in, It is so dreary, I cannot understand why the raving reviews, characters didn't hold any interest to me at all. Nothing happened and when it does or revealed it had in the past, I was past caring. One to forget.

Excellent

I came across this book by accident while looking for something Sean Barrett was narrating. It's one the most enjoyable books in my collection. It keeps you thinking about it when you're not listening to it. Sean Barrett was brilliant as always!
Highly recommended!
