Summary

'From kicking a ball as a kid under the street lamps of Poplar and standing on Highbury's North Bank with my dad, to my first game at West Ham, I was born head over heels in love with football. It saved me, and 50 years on that hasn't changed one bit - I'd be lost without it....'

Harry is the manager who has seen it all - from from a dismal 70s Portakabin at Oxford City and training pitches with trees in the middle to the unbeatable highs of the Premiership, lifting the FA Cup and taking on Real Madrid in the Champions League. With his much loved, no-nonsense delivery, Harry brings us a story filled with passion and humour that takes you right inside every drama of his career. Harry finally tells the full story of all the controversial ups and downs - the pain and heartache of his court case, the England job, his love for Bobby Moore, his adventures at Portsmouth with Milan Mandaric, the Southampton debacle, Tottenham and Daniel Levy, and not forgetting his years at West Ham or the challenges at his current club QPR.

It’s the epic journey of one of the great managers and, along the way, the story of the British game itself over the last five decades. In an era now dominated by foreign coaches Harry is the last of an old-fashioned breed of English football man - one who has managed to move with the times and always come out fighting.

Fantasticly written & narrated

What made the experience of listening to Always Managing the most enjoyable?

Absolute pleasure, as 'Arry would say (different class). I was begining to lose interest in Audio Books, I havent had a good listen in my last few picks. This is just Brilliant. You can count on Harry to tell it as it is. I was dissapointed for about 30 seconds that it wasnt narrated by Harry himself but the narration is incredible, it felt like listening to the old man himself. Finished the whole thing in 3 days (& im a busy man i promise you!)

What about David John’s performance did you like?

Fantastic, incredible

Lots about Harry but..

Enjoyed the book and seen a new side to Harry. Thought there’d be more transfer and player talk though.

Lovable old barrow boy or canny privileged fraud?

What did you like most about Always Managing?

There's a fair bit of nostalgia and humour as you'd expect

What did you like best about this story?

Little glimpses of the old days, how West Ham let themselves down with their disregard of their heritage

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The story of Bobby Moore from someone who knew him directly. Also Julian Dicks

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

How have I impacted on the lives of so many, when life seems to happen around me without my understanding of how it does?

Any additional comments?

I listened, I heard, i interpreted and I formed my own opinion. Not sure I received the same message as I was supposed to

Insightful and Entertaining for a Football Fan!

Enjoyable read and narrated excellently in a similar accent to Harry! Harry is a very likable, honest and insightful man who's knowledge of football is top notch. His witiness and ability to tell funny stories from his experiences of clubs, players, colleagues make this a very entertaining read and those into their Football will certainly enjoy it.

Most enjoyable

Would you listen to Always Managing again? Why?

For the finer details, to hear what I missed

Have you listened to any of David John’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No I have not listened to any before however, David Johns made a great narrator and it certainly helped turn around my disappointed Harry Redknapp did not narrate himself. At times just maybe, just maybe, you could pretend with David's narration it was Harry speaking

Any additional comments?

A very enjoyable memoir of a man I certainly admire for a no nonsense but honest account of himself.
