Summary

One rainy night in the woods outside of Portland, Dr. Victoria Peres is called to the site of a strange and haunting crime scene. Six beautiful young girls — all in white dresses and arranged in a perfect circle — have been left for dead. Only one girl, fighting for her life at a nearby hospital, has survived the carnage. Stranger still, the crime is an exact replica of a decades-old cold case.

Things only get more complicated when Medical Examiner Seth Rutledge, Victoria’s first love, arrives on the scene. The timing couldn’t be worse for Victoria, who faces the case of her life and a killer determined to destroy her. In the fourth book in her heart-pounding Bone Secrets series, bestselling author Kendra Elliot sends listeners on a dark and thrilling journey as forensic anthropologist Victoria Peres races to solve a horrific new case while confronting the secrets of her past.

Kendra Elliot Keeps Delivering

I absolutely love how she ties all her characters and their various professions into cohesive yet unique stories. The stories just keep getting better and better and you end up caring deeply about the characters. More audible books please!

Awful performer

Terrible inflection. Do authors not approve the performers? She had such great ones on the previous books in the series.

More bone secrets in Oregon

Alone is a very typical Kendra Elliot mystery. It's an excellent story that's a combination of science and relationships. Neither mystery nor suspense are particularly strong. Alone is not a romance novel but it could be considered chick lit. Tanya Eby's narration is excellent.

Narrator's Chronic Mispronunciation Distracts

Would you try another book from Kendra Elliot and/or Tanya Eby?

Yes. I like the sound of Tanya Eby's voice, but I found her mispronunciations (the main character's last name, along with many other instances) of simple words extremely distracting.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I was actually a tad surprised at the twist!

Could you see Alone being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No.

Any additional comments?

The dialogue is a bit hokey.

Fabulous narration for a GREAT story!

This was a total WIN for me for on both the story front and the narration. Tanya Eby is a fabulous narrator ~ I wish she'd done this whole series! There have been 4 stories in this series so far ~ Chilled, Hidden, Buried and Alone ~ and all 4 have had different narrators. That pretty much drives me crazy, lol, as we see cross over characters.

Dr. Victoria Peres is a forensic bone Doc ~ she's with the medical examiner when he's called out late to a chilling scene where 5 girls are dead, and 1 barely clings to life. She's appalled ~ and surprised when the first love her life shows up on scene, Seth Rutledge. She's surprised to find that he's trying for her retiring boss's job...and that he's going through a divorce fromt he woman he'd left her for so many years ago.

The detail of the crimes in Ms. Elliot's books are eerily real to read about ~ and her characterization is so life like you KNOW the people you're reading about. I loved the interaction between Seth and Victoria ~ it was believable and had you rooting for Seth, who'd done what he thought was the only right thing there was to do, and Victoria who's guard has never quite went down since their relationship was over.

Ms. Elliot threw a few red herrings in there to fool me and make me think I knew whodunnit ~ and even when you DID know who it was to doubt it, lol.

Just an all around fabulous listen I'd recommend to any suspense fans!!

Just OK

The love story and mystery/suspense wasn't as good as the first and third novel in the series.

Awesome 2nd Chance Romantic Suspense

Audible. Also available to borrow ebook/audio via KU. This is one of those books that’s less expensive to buy the ebook & add-on the audio ($6.98 for both at the time of this review).

This is a second-chance romance where former college sweethearts and forensic medical examiners, Victoria Peres and Seth Rutledge are working to solve two mass murder mysteries. What I love most about this series is that while the romance is good, you could remove it all and still have a *really* good book. This book is no exception and a solid 5 stars. Something I could listen to several times and still enjoy.

I’ll be honest, I was a little nervous about Tanya Eby as narrator. I think of her as purely a romance narrator and I wasn’t sure how she would be handling mystery/suspense and such a large cast of characters to portray. Yeah, shame on me because she was fantastic and I don’t have a single complaint. I’m actually super excited that she’s narrating the last book as well.

Terrible narration

The reader's portrayal of all the male voices in the book is extra lispy and feminine. I feel like I'm listening to Kip from Napoleon Dynamite narrate every male character, which is bad for business. I just can't visualize a sexy Medical Examiner practicing Rex Kwon Do.

Aside from the narrative, the protagonists in this story were much less likeable than most others written by Kendra Elliot. Just a no, overall.
