Summary

One kiss under the mistletoe destroyed a friendship. Will another Christmas kiss remake it into something better?

Eli hasn't been home since he left at 18 with a heart aching from his best friend's rejection and his father's intolerance. But when his father reaches out, Eli figures it's time to make peace with his family. He doesn't expect to come face-to-face with Turner too - or to learn that the straight friend he'd foolishly loved is actually bisexual - but once the shock wears off, he knows exactly what he wants for Christmas.

Turner's life isn't everything he'd once planned, but he's happy to be the shoulder his loved ones lean on. They keep him busy, which is just as well since none of his dates have really clicked. He hasn't been able to connect with anyone the way he did with his former best friend. When Eli shows up for the holidays after years away, Turner doesn't know what hit him. But he knows one thing: This time, he wants to give Eli a reason to stay.

All I Want Is You is a friends to lovers, second-chance romance with an HEA.

A Merry Kiss-mas Story!

Just before Christmas, I was lucky enough to be gifted a free audiobook copy of All I Want Is You by DJ Jamison. She was kind enough to offer free copies of her book to select people so they could listen and review. I’m always up for discovering new to me authors, so I was more than excited to have the opportunity to experience this quick Christmas story during the holiday season.

Before I get into the meat and potatoes of the review I’d like to talk about the narrator, Wyatt Baker. I’m actually pretty picky when it comes to narrators. If the reader doesn’t breathe life into the characters or story, I honestly can’t stay interested. That being said, I’m happy to say Wyatt Baker did just that. From the start to finish I was drawn into the audiobook and that wasn’t just because the author did a fantastic job at writing the book. He brought the energy of the characters to the book right from the start. I felt all of the emotions which really appreciate as a listener.

Now, on to my thoughts about this story! I won’t give too much away because I think, as long as you like m/m romance mixed with a dash of holiday spirit, everyone should give this book a read/listen. So, don’t expect too many spoilers if that’s what you’re looking for.

This lovely holiday read tells the story of Eli and Turner, two guys that grew up together as best friends in Juniper, Oregon. It includes many plot points that tug on the emotional heartstrings: unrequited love, familial homophobic degradation, mending rifts in relationships, eye-opening revelations, exploring past feelings, sizzling sexy times between the sheets, Christmas festivities, and a sweet doggy best friend.

I honestly enjoyed listening to this book from start to finish. One thing that I did feel was lacking was the reconciliation between Eli and his father. I felt that Eli suffered mentally and emotional as a kid due to his father’s homophobia. Yes, his old man wanted to mend their relationship after eight years, but it felt like it all fell into place too easily. Emotional wounds are hard to overcome, so I felt like forgiveness was given a little too quickly. Another thing that I was slightly bothered by was how angry Turner got with Eli when Turner’s doggy had to go to the vet. Blaming Eli for what happened seemed childish to me and I struggled to connected with Turner after that.

All in all, this was a good book! It started off well, had a solid plot, and ended with a sweet epilogue that gave me the warm and fuzzies. I would definitely recommend this book/audiobook for those looking for an enjoyable holiday read they can finish in an afternoon.

All I Want Is You

A lovely warm hug of a Christmas story.

This was a lovely festive listen with heart warming characters and hot love scenes. I binged the book over two days and was left with a smile on my face when it ended.

The narration is engaging and the story has you rooting for Eli and Turner from the very beginning.

Loved the characters and their story

This is the sort of romance I love—ex best friends to lovers who have to bridge the gap of being apart for eight years, plus one of them is supposedly straight. Add in the friction of dealing with an unsupportive father, the appearance of a couple of ex’s to spark some jealousy, and the fact that Eli was only supposed to be visiting over the holidays before returning to California to leave the reader wondering what direction the story will take. It’s still a sweet, relatively low angst re-kindling of a friendship that you’re wanting to become more. There’s a delightful HEA epilogue. I would have loved more scenes with them as a couple, but that’s me being greedy.

Lovely narration from Wyatt Baker that matched the mood and tone of the story. Easy to listen to and follow, making it a very enjoyable listen.

a really cute, second chance romance

I totally fell in love with Turner and Eli, the best friends who went their separate ways after an ill fated kiss. Eli is finally back home for Christmas after 8 years away and initially doesn't realise that Turner came out as bi a few years previously. The two men eventually find their way to each other and realise that what they have has always been more than friendship. A really sweet holiday romance.

Sweet reunion

I loved it. It was well paced, the narrator's voice was interesting and nice to listen to. It was a sweet story and I thought Eli and Taylor were great characters. it didn't start out perfect but had a great ending. ii would definitely recommend this audio.

Fab festive story

Great second chance romance with a festive theme. Eli returns home after 8 years to spend the holidays with his family, he’s at a turning point in his life and isn’t sure what to do. He reconnects with Turner his best friend and crush from high school and things start to definitely heat up.
Navigating the holidays can be a challenge in the best of times but with Eli being away for so long he struggles to see where he fits in and Turner has his own struggles with being a person so many have come to rely on. DJ Jamieson does a great job giving us the journey both guys go on to get more from their lives, its sweet, emotional and uplifting.

as good as the ebook

The story is always 4 or 5 stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, but I listen enough to give a review.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A

3* - it's more then a one-time-listening.
it's like a B

Realistic

This audiobook ticks several boxes for me. When I read or listen to a Christmas story, I far prefer a standalone to revisiting previous characters. While this is a novella, it is certainly not short so there is plenty of time for character development. And...it is a second chance romance where the MCs come back together after a gap of 8 years.

I must confess that I(slightly) preferred Eli to Turner. Eli has such a wicked sense of humour despite life not being particularly kind at times. I liked how he tried hard with his father despite his father's often lukewarm acceptance of him. Turner is more care worn by circumstances and there is no easy solution to some of his problems. I found the writing to be realistic and not at all sugar coated despite being a holiday novella.

The narration by Wyatt Baker is clear and well paced, very important for someone with hearing impairment. However, I did find him rather monotone and sometimes it seemed that he was just reading the story and not portraying the emotions.

A lovely christmas story

Eli kissed Turner when he was 18 and was rejected.
He left town partly because of this and his High school coach Dad's inability to support him being gay.
For 8 long years he stayed away until the LGBTQ shelter he worked at was merged with another and he had no job.
So he went home for Christmas.

His reunion with Turner was fraught but they soon realise that they are meant to be together. Turner has always regretted rejecting Eli but he is now Eli's Dad's assistant and does not take any crap from coach, even going a far as to pull him up over his behaviour.

this is the story of how they overcome adversity and reunite over the holidays.

I really liked this story when I read it last year and the narration, by Wyatt Baker was okay. Let's put it this way , I didn't want to turn it off once like some books I have listened to. It brought that lump to my throat that only comes when I get emotional at a story.

Would I recommend this to others readers? yes I would.
