About this listen
It took me years to get over my fiance sleeping with another woman. I thought my luck with men had finally turned around until I walked in on my new fiance with my maid-of-honor.
I'm done with men entirely. I'm definitely old enough to know better than to let that happen to me again. Trust isn't something I have in me to give...to anyone. At least, not anymore. Besides, even if I wanted to give someone my everything, I have nothing left to give. Now, if Walker could be less handsome, his relationship with his nephew not quite as sexy, and his body...well, let's not get crazy. His body is just a gift to womankind.
The moment I laid eyes on Ellie, I knew she'd be full of spit and vinegar. And why wouldn't she be? She'd just caught her fiance with her maid of honor - and they weren't chatting about the upcoming nuptials. I can't help but push her buttons. Maybe having her work for me in my vet clinic wasn't the smartest move I've ever made considering I can't stop my body from aching for her. She said she was done with men entirely, that she's broken, but I can't help but hope that she realizes she's all I need.
Contains mature themes.

Loved the story line
Some of it was written to sound cringy but it’s full of twists and turns and the fairytale love was so nice

finished in less than 24hrs. love the story and characters my favourite thing was the characters were very mature, in decesion making and in age. not like your usual mid-twenties Main leads. and I always preferred blue collar or small town guys in romance. unlike your unrealistic 24 year old billionaire boss romance. all round good listen.

Great small town romance
an enjoyable listen with likable characters and a great performance from the narrator's. the twist at the end was a little obvious but in no way took away from the book.

Feel good book
Bit of a cheesefest with some hot sex dropped in. It was an enjoyable listen as a background book, rather than a gripping tale, but I love the feel good vibes and hearing a story where there’s a really decent bloke…. They do exist lol.
Male narrator should be banned from doing women’s voices bless him.
First book ever where I could have happily missed the epilogue. A layer of cheddar that wasn’t necessary!

Lighthearted
This was a simple but enjoyable read. Coming off the back of a story that emotionally devastated me (I cried. I never cry.) I needed something low angst, easy and cosy and this delivered that. Ellie walks in on her fiancé & maid of honour the morning of her wedding, she handles the situation with much more self control and calm than I would and takes off in the ex's car, she is in the middle of nowhere about to take her anger out on said car with a golf club when Walker pulls over and stops her from coming up on criminal damage charges and instead convinces her to follow him to a place he knows she will be safe and taken care of... Miss Polly's. I adored Miss Pollys character and I aspire to be like her in my old age.
The story is a bit insta lust/lovey and usually I'm not the biggest fan of that as I prefer to see a deeper connection, however as stated above I was in need of something easy so it worked for me this time. Overall it has good humour, side characters, spice was ok, I liked both main characters, the pacing was good and its obvious that some of the side characters mentioned must come from other books by this author and their breif appearances are for the readers who would like to have a glimpse of them, they didn't distract from this story but if you haven't read any previous books from this author like I haven't then their appearances won't mean much.
Listened to from the Audible Plus catalogue narrated by Lynn Barrington & Alexander Cendese both of whom did a great job. I have listened to Alexander Cendese before but this was my first Lynn Barrington experience and I will definitely listen to her again. Overall a fun, lighthearted read and I will definitely give more of this authors work a go at some point. 🌶🌶

Cheesy Romance
Your classic cheesy romance with not much conflict so it was good for a cosy read but the male narrator does such awful female voices! it sounds like something between spongebob squarepants and that silly tiktok voice filter LOL definitely took me out of the story a little bit. i found that both narrators also took different directions for side character voices (specifically polly) which felt inconsistent, for example the male narrator made polly sound withering and old whereas the female narrator made her sound like a more realistic mature woman.
storywise not that much happens, we're really just following along on the two character's journey. Even the reveal at the end was something that I guessed so it's more just waiting for our characters to find out.
all in all it's not bad! it was cute but maybe a tiny bit boring at times.
