I thought I knew a great deal already but this book taught me more. Particular credit for the real life stories included. Only downside is the audio at times alters in tone due to recording inconsistency.

This work by Max Hastings is brilliant, covering every theatre of action, revealing new insights to the war, which makes it a fascinating read. Very thorough. A must read for anyone interested in the history of WWII.

A great story if you are interested in the second world war. However, what spoilt it for me was the clipping of every first word following a pause. I find this particularly distracting and for this reason I am returning the book.

Mr Hastings writes in a very engaging academic style that brings in well researched stats and facts with biting quotes from the lesser voices of the conflicts, soldiers, civilians and survivors and the long departed, giving a well balanced and in depth account of the worst of times.

Worth the day and a half it takes to hear...
