This story was in many ways the most interesting in the series as it has great structure and the depiction of the lives of 17th century high society is spellbinding.
However, the prolonged descriptions of pure pornographic scenes and the narrator’s tendency to recount them like he was relaying football matches let the book down and unnecessarily prolonged it.
Cut out half the intimate scenes and the book would be perfect. Got tired of fast forwarding them.

If you are Voyeuristic, then this is this book for you. You are listening, with no need for imagination and LOTS OF DOUBLE ENTENDRE. I started to fast forward, with the words "not again." I then realised how bored I had become. The story is extremely thin, unimaginative and unbelievable. It started off badly and never drags itself out of the "sexual pit." Sadly the author has made a common mistake of describing the characters of the Heroine and Hero, then totally trashing them. It is hard to believe that the Hero is the same man; as seen in other books. Now he is a self-pitying coward and dictatorial bully. The Heroine is built up as a strong character. Yet apparently sex turns her into an easily manipulated, spineless wimp. Who accepts abuse from her husband and retaliates by throwing "temper tantrums." However the sex continues relentlessly. A REAL DISAPPOINTMENT 😞
