Summary

Book one in the Ahriman series.

Cast out of his Legion, the sorcerer Ahriman, who condemned the Thousand Sons to an eternity of damnation, plots his return to power and the destruction of his foes.

Listen to it because: experience the beginning of an epic, time-twisting saga of revenge, betrayal and attempted atonement. John French takes the Ahriman you know and love from the Horus Heresy in new and interesting directions, making him both deeply sympathetic and thoroughly evil.

The story: all is dust.... Spurned by his former brothers and his father, Magnus the Red, Ahriman is a wanderer, a sorcerer of Tzeentch whose actions condemned an entire Legion to an eternity of damnation. Once a vaunted servant of the Thousand Sons, he is now an outcast, a renegade who resides in the Eye of Terror. Ever scheming, he plots his return to power and the destruction of his enemies, an architect of fate and master of the warp.

I seriously love the lore of this galaxy, but this story failed to get my attention. the horus heresy novels are epic, and I understand how poignant they are. But when I compare this to those, I just feel the characters never left from the narration and grabbed my attention.

It was a sale title and I think I would recommend this title only if the listener is already into the lore and is wanting to expand their character backgrounds.

Ahriham unfortunately hasn't gone up in my estimations.

The story just wasn't memorable beyond the main villain's beef with Ahriman. Very abrupt shifts between different characters' viewpoints also make it easy to lose track of what's happening and difficult to recall major plot points. This became so bad I had to google up a synopsis just to remind myself of what was actually going on.

Hope the rest of the series is better.

Really passed me by

Now here’s a story to make you fall in love with one of the most evil and twisted characters in the galaxy - all for the salvation of a legion. Thoroughly enjoyed and one of the most interesting back stories to a 40K character - can’t wait for the next books in the trilogy

One of the greatest

narrator sounds like he never left puberty.

Great story made a teeth-gritting chore to get through. Voice acting is all fine and good, but the -non stop- Voice inflection, dips and pitches made it sound like it was being narrated by a pubescent.

Just...no

Great story, a must be for Thousand Sons enthusiasts. And it's being read by one man with about 1963 voices. Give or take... 7. A completely mind blowing performance.

The reader has about 1687 voices!
