Story
We all want to live like a local. Stay in a 'home away from home'. But if it's someone else's house, then you're not the only one with the key. Lauren has finally dumped her dead-weight boyfriend, and what better way to celebrate a breakup than by going on holiday with your best friend? Except the holiday isn't turning out as planned - their cosy twosome has become a three, and while Barcelona might be heaven, their rented apartment is anything but. It's small, shabby but, more than that, Lauren can't help but feel...hunted.

Story
I pinch the screen to zoom until I’m staring at the face of a ghost. A man with very short hair, staring directly at the camera with piercing brown eyes. He is as he was when I last saw him: wrinkles around the corners of the eyes and a knowing smirk. That’s the expression I see when I can’t sleep. My body tenses. It can’t be him. It’s not my ex-husband. It’s not David. I know that better than anyone because he didn’t walk out on me. He didn’t disappear two years ago and he’s not a missing person. I know that for a fact because I’m the one who killed him.

Paige, Richard and me. We thought we’d be friends forever. But everything changed the day we took the shortcut home from school along the old railway line. I wish we’d gone the long way. I wish we hadn’t seen our classmate, pale and still in the undergrowth. And I wish we hadn’t promised to keep one, awful detail a secret just between us....

When she gets off, something feels different. An envelope stuffed with thousands of pounds is in her bag. Is it the answer to her prayers, or the beginning of a nightmare? Because, in the end, everything has a price.

I couldn’t believe it when I got the call to offer me my dream job. It was right in the heart of the city with a flat provided. I jumped at the chance, and within days I had made new friends and began dating a wonderful man. For the first time in years, I feel safe. But soon strange things begin to happen in my flat: odd noises in the night, the feeling that I’m being watched. You're not who you say you are. Neither is she. She thinks she knows me. She believes my marriage is falling apart at the seams, that my husband can barely look me in the eyes. She thinks I’m desperate for a baby, that my longing for a family keeps me up at night. As much as I hate to admit it, all of this is true. She thinks I listen to her advice, that I care about her opinion. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Because she has no idea who I am. She has no clue that I know everything. I know her secret. I know that she did the unforgivable. I know how many lives she ruined.

The white-washed Italian villa is perfect. I thought it might feel odd, living in a stranger’s house for the summer, but as my husband and children swim in the infinity pool, I start to relax. And then, in the back of a wardrobe, I find something that shatters everything.... Sparkling green eyes, square jaw, lopsided smile. A young man with his arm around a beautiful woman. The picture is old and faded, but I’d recognize him anywhere. The man is my husband.

Summary
On a beautiful island, under the Mediterranean sun, two families enjoy a well-deserved holiday. Then, one balmy evening, Emma's father is found unconscious on the sand. Everyone is hiding secrets. Who will you believe?
Emma: I went up to Daniel, sunning himself by the pool, to break the news. They’ve been best friends for years, but it was like he didn’t care that Dad was in hospital. Like it wasn’t a surprise. Like he knew.
Daniel: That girl’s deluded. No one knows where she was the night her dad ended up on the beach. And as for what she did to her own child...well, it’s her parents I feel sorry for. Imagine having a daughter like that and knowing what she did.
Emma: I’ve never trusted Daniel. And then I found the envelope, tucked away in Dad’s luggage. It explained so much. There’s a reason someone wanted to hurt him. I may have made mistakes, but I’ve never lied like Dad has.
Daniel: That girl knows more than she’s letting on.
Emma: Someone knows that I know, and they’ll do anything to keep me quiet. We’re trapped on the island, and I can’t trust any of them.
A unique and totally gripping psychological thriller.

Gripping !!
I love Kerry Wilkinson’s books, especially his stand alone thrillers and this was no exception. Told in a very unusual
Style as a true crime mystery with interviews with the main protagonists . I could not stop listening . Won’t say more as don’t want to give too much away .

Impossible to follow mish-mash interview format
I was so looking forward to this but just could not follow and was boggle eared trying to sort out who was who and what was happening - no many voices, too much switching back and forth. Might work on the screen where you can see the faces but just too confusing - or should I say too much work when you are looking for a relaxing book to unwind with.

I prefer books that are not part of a series, but not this one so much. Format is quite unusual and its hard to follow. I think unless you want to find out a lot about this particular incident, I'm not really sure why you would buy it...

Interesting?
The idea of this book is really good, but I found it difficult to listen to and wonder how it came off in print—- instead of alternating perspectives one chapter or one part at a time this book alternates approximately every twelve seconds. There are parts where each line switches between characters and not in a dialogue but almost like they’re interrupting each other which made it a little frustrating to listen to. You’ve probably seen TV shows like CSI where there’s maybe a one minute clip of the police interviewing multiple suspects one at a time and the camera cuts back and forth. It works well on film for a minute to demonstrate the vasty different perspectives, but when you’re listening to it for some reason it was just annoying.
I also strongly disliked the lack of resolution at then, despite the author’s attempt to justify it.

Unexpected
This format is totally different from most audiobooks. It’s completely narrated in first person from different characters. At first I wasn’t sure about it but then as I listened to the different viewpoints and conflicting stories I really wanted to know how things went. It kept my interest for that reason. How reliable are the different characters? It’s maybe not for everyone, but it worked for me.

Fascinating on so many levels
I never write reviews, I read them. I felt compelled to write one about, After the Accident. It is Kerry Wilkinson best to date. It contains mystery, a wonderful cast whom you get to personally know. The multi-level writing and dynamics of this family excelled. I want to see the movie, please.
