1973. Hours after a mysterious phone call is made to the police, a train pulls into Sunderland station with a dead body on board.

Cause of death: strangulation. Victim: unknown. Witnesses: none.

Undeterred by this baffling set of circumstances, newly promoted Police Sergeant Aline James vows to crack the case and prove her critics wrong. But when her famously ruthless investigation tactics yield no results, she is forced to seek help from two unlikely allies: unassuming assassin John Brown and calamitous actor Tony Davies.

As bodies pile up, can this unusual trio thwart a devilishly complex plot, before one of them, actually, becomes a corpse?

Full of sharp twists and dark wit, this is a trio of investigators you wouldn't expect to root for - but absolutely do

Extraordinarily fun and oh-so-gripping
A dark, witty story that had me racing for the end, yet reluctant to finish! Vivid, clever, cheeky and compelling (Janice Hallett, Sunday Times bestselling author of THE APPEAL)
The most fun I've had reading a book in a long time. Pitch-perfect in tone, funny, and so very very clever. I'd be surprised if I read anything better this year. Highly recommended (M. W. Craven, Sunday Times bestselling author of THE MERCY CHAIR)
A wonderful story told with increasing pace. A cross between Hitchcock and The Beiderbecke Affair (Ian Moore, author of DEATH AND CROISSANTS)

Enjoyed this. The narrators are good and the personality really develop well. The first book set the inital relationship and it grow throughout this one. I'm hoping there will be another one!

Great book

I loved these stories, and have listened to them in quick succession. Desperately awaiting a third! The story tellers really bring the characters to life.

left you wanting more

it's an enjoyable story, told in a lively way by all three readers. Episodes that seemed irrelevant at first turn out to be essential later on. The final bit, with Tony trying to atone for the one big mistake in his life, is unnecessary, unless it aims to whet our appetite for a third instalment.

it was nice to reconnect with the characters of Actually I am a Murderer.
