"I was very uncomfortable with the narration."
Would you try another book written by Mark Dawson or narrated by David Thorpe?

I like Mark Dawson's John Milton books. I have all of them on Kindle. However, I did not enjoy the narration, particularly the voice given to John Milton. I gave up very quickly.

Would you be willing to try another one of David Thorpe’s performances?

Probably not, but it could be bad jusdgement on the Milton voice.

Was Blackout worth the listening time?

    Not for me.

    "Another great listen..."

You know what it's like; it can be a great story, written by a favourite author, but the narrator ruins the book. Not the case with David Thorpe. He's a great performer and - I think - adds to the enjoyment of the story. Great stuff. Only problem is, I've now listened to them all...

    "Another great Milton novel"

This a great series. Every time I listen each successive book I remember why I have left so long between purchases, the narrator is dreadful; the short staccato delivery of speech for the characters hacks me off, and fails to give the characters the life they deserve. You don't hear people speak like this in real life.
Saying all that the novel is entertaining I just think it would be so much better if it was read by Jeff Harding or Paul Thornley

Not as much thought has gone into this book as the others in John Milton series.
Still good, but wonder about his lack of attention. Good ending and we wait for the next adventure.

Never a disappointment. John Milton has faults, quirks, moods, even a weakness... he is still the best good/bad hero on offer. Just great!

"It seems the best is in the past"

The books in the John Milton series I have found the most enjoyable are the stories where John is up against a 'new' threat. Where he is helping someone new (Sward of God & Salvation Row) get their life together. I had hoped that having old enemies after him had been left in the past after he settled things with his old employer. I had been a fan of this series but I am losing interest. While this book isn't bad, it isn't the best int he series.

Not chaise long. but all in all, the narrator's voice IS John Milton and I seldom hear an audiobook that doesn't have an error (typically wind as in the wind blows, vs. wind, wind the watch, winding road, etc.
especially fun John book as he once again faces impossible odds!

    "ALWAYS ENJOYABLE"

The latest episode of the John Milton series is a well written, enjoyable tale with some old characters, a few new ones, a prior protagonist and a twisted tale. A lot of local color, in true Mark Dawson style! I loved it, Mark! May John's adventures continue for many more years! Thank you!!

    "Best Milton Thriller yet"
If you could sum up Blackout in three words, what would they be?

    Unputdownable

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, good story with great twists, turns, and surprises.

What does David Thorpe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His command of voice for all the characters. Incredible talent!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There was not a lull in the story at all. Very well written with just the right flow.

    Any additional comments?

Milton has now become my favorite charactor of this genre.

"Another John Milton espionage series winner!"

Author Mark Dawson calls his protagonist John Milton, "James Bond with a conscience." John Milton is an ex-assassin for the British government who is endlessly conflicted by his past as a killer and by his alcoholism. Yet, no matter how far away he travels he can never escape the impact of past actions and behaviors; enemies from his past always find him. Action, suspense and interesting situations and characters make Dawson's novels and short stories worth reading. Blackout, John Milton series Novel #10, follows Mark Dawson's tried and true formula and is a definite winner. Narrator David Thorpe is adequate, but no better.
