Summary

“Sometimes love happens when you least expect it.” That was what my husband’s mistress told me the day I found out about their affair.

I didn’t believe it until five minutes later when mouthwatering celebrity chef Tanner Reese walked up, tossed his arm around my shoulders, and told my cheating husband to take a hike.

Tanner and I couldn’t have been more different. He spent his weekends at clubs, rubbing elbows with fellow A-listers. I spent mine in yoga pants with cheese boards and a glass of wine - or six.

Our relationship shouldn’t have worked, but it did. That is until Tanner proved to me that even though love happens when you least expect it....

So does heartbreak.

Another Great Book From Aly Martinez!

As always after listening or reading one of Aly Martinez book it is the emotions that you go through with the characters. We start with Rita married to Greig for 7 years suddenly finding out that her husband has had a sixth month affair with one of the practice nurse where they both work.
Rita is devastated and decides to divorce Greig , but he wants her back. The more she finds out the less she wants him. Suddenly to get rid of husband who is grabbing her at the practice fund raiser. When a handsome man comes towards them, she pretends to know him and he agrees.
Suddenly she is friends with Tanner a chief whose company donates the food for the fundraiser for the children.
Both Tanner and Rita have there private things they haven’t come to terms with.
This has drama, love, happiness all the range that Aly does so well. I absolutely loved Tanner I though he was a sweetie. Rita lost all her self confidence and was frightened to be in love again. It took a lot from Tanner to help her love again
NARRATED BY TROY DURAN AND EMMA WILDER were excellent pulling me , I never was jolted from the story once by the narrators, Which for me is a win win

All the feels!

Aly Martinez, why is this the first book I have listened to of yours? I have fallen in love with Tanner and Rita! When I first started listening to this and the tragic way Rita's marriage was ending, I was a little concerned. Would Rita bounce back? Would she go back to the idiot man who was trying to get back into her good graces? But then it all turned around. She took control, and when opportunity knocked, and a gorgeous man was there, she took the chance and kissed him! Of course, neither Rita or Tanner were looking for love, but their slow burn relationship of getting know each other, was just amazing. From tuna casserole to yoga pants, Rita is an ordinary woman showing how she cares for her man. Tanner, a famous TV chef is taken back by her kindness and true ways of affection. It's endearing, and impossible not to root for this couple! With some twists and turns though, life is never easy. Give this "simmering" story a listen, and you will find out just what I am talking about!

Emma Wilder and Troy Duran bring this emotionally charged story to life. I could not stop listening, their ability to make me feel the story was captivating. I loved Emma's portrayal of Rita. She gave her the pain, sense of betrayal and glimpse of hope all with her voices. Troy captured Tanner's essence with his tone of voice, giving us his frustration and love. It's a wonderful listen.

A FLAWLESS SWOON-WORTHY CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE

Aly Martinez is quickly becoming one of my top auto-download authors because over and over again she’s written heartfelt books I can’t put down.. and can’t wait to get back to. This storyline is much lighter than my previous listens by her, it’s a shining example of a 5 star Contemporary romance and it’s a bitter-sweet tale of love, bad timing, second chances and HEA’s.

Tanner and Rita weren’t looking for love.. in fact they were both in the middle of a messy relationship.. but instant attraction, easy banter, soul-to-soul harmony and off-the-charts palpable chemistry made it impossible for either one to walk away. A wronged wife going through a divorce and a heap of self-doubt and a smooth sexy celebrity tv Chef with ex-girlfriend trouble meet. They try to take things slowly, try to find the right pace for their relationship, try to move on from their troubled pasts, try not to hurt one another and try not to fall in love with each other.. but they would spectacularly fail. So what you get is an instant connection between two loveable characters, a delicious budding and building of a sweet relationship, bad timings, a beautiful first then second chance to love, character growth and a dual POV storyline that has a good balance of angst, drama, humor, heat and heart.

Worth a credit? A well-written well-balanced Contemporary Romance brought to life by good narration.. and I loved every single minute. So yes, IMO, definitely creditworthy. This IS a standalone story.. however, it’s also a companion to Porter and Charlotte’s Duet The Darkest Sunrise.

Sweet, charming and fun audio! Loved it!

My favorite form to re-read books I love are audiobooks, so when I had the opportunity to listen to Across the Horizon by Aly Martinez, I jumped at the chance. The narrators, Emma Wilder and Troy Duran, were absolutely perfect as Rita and Tanner. I loved immersing myself in their story again!

Rita is going through a rough time. Getting a divorce after finding her husband cheating. Now she is trying to find her place in her new normal, but that is not as easy as it sounds. Tanner Reese stole my heart! He was sexy and sweet. As a celebrity chef he would seem to have it all, but lately he has been missing something. Until Rita enters his life. Though Rita and Tanner had instant chemistry, they both had a lot to work through.

I truly enjoyed reading and listening to Across the Horizon by Aly Martinez. It was sweet and funny, but also emotional. I loved the characters and their journey and highly recommend this book in either eBook or audio!

Taking a chance on love!! Highly Recommend!!

Oh my goodness, yes!!
This book was beautiful. I absolutely needed this. Tanner and Rita were the perfect couple. Timing was not on their side but they aligned perfectly.
This story is lighter than what Aly normally writes but it still had all the feels and gave me butterflies in my tummy.
It was the perfect story for Tanner. He’s charming, sexy, funny, and all around a really good guy. Seeing him find the one woman who balances him was so rewarding.
These two together made me laugh too. They have the funniest conversations and say the silliest things to each other and I loved how close they were.
Great start to my listening for 2019.
This was my first time listening to narrator Troy Duran and I really enjoyed his performance. I’ve listened to Emma Wilder once before but for some reason her performance in this story was so much more memorable.
These two nailed it and kept me invested from start to finish.
Definitely recommend!!!
Absolutely recommend.

Tanner and Rita...A love that was meant to happen

I must say i could actually picture Troy acting this out on film. His voice for Tanner was amazing. We met Tanner when his brother was dealt a blow with his son and ex-wife. In the Darkest Sunrise Series. Tanner is a hardworking chef who is there for his family and is somewhat of a playboy but he is missing the glue to his life. He has a crazy, psycho ex that is just a pain and he needs to get rid of her. He knows Rita because she is Charlotte's best friend who got her through the toughest time in her life.

Emma bought Rita to life. There were many angles to Rita and Emma was able to capture them all. Rita has baggage and it turns ugly. While she is trying to divorce her husband, she also has to still be who she is and he is making her life hard. She is a straight to the point type of person and at the time when meeting Tanner, she is just not ready for another relationship. Although she is tough she still is hurt.

I love the chemistry between Tanner and Rita. They were "thrown" together in a bad way but if anyone could get it together, open their eyes and see what is meant to be it is them. Her heart is broken and Tanner is just the person to open her eyes and see what type of man he really is!!

Emotion leaps off the page.

My favorite stories are the identifiers. Stories that carry a sense of truth that is relatable and raw. Characters that inspire by example and authors who are not afraid to expose their heart even at the worst moments. Across the Horizon is a compilation of fate, love and heartbreak. Martinez peers into an aching heart and a second chance at a surprising time. Emotion leaps off the page and pulls at your heart. Rita and Tanner are a match made in heartache, but healed by love.

Emma is amazing as usual and one of my all time favorite female narrators, Troy was amazing. I have now added him to my list of ales that I will be looking for. Already added like 10 of his books to my wish list.

4.5 Simmering Stars!

This was a great audiobook! The narration was fantastic. Both narrators had perfect timing! I love it when you can't even tell their reading, but instead telling the story.
This book grabs you right out of the gate with some pretty shocking events.
Tanner and Rita meet out of happenstance and he is generous enough to play along with Rita's ruse.
I was laughing out loud at their banter and Tanner's persistence in trying to get Rita to go out with him. I found these two to be absolutely charming. It's an emotional story for sure. <3

This girl is a huge fan!

Easily a 4 star listen! Aly Martinez wrote such a beautiful story of second chances and starting over. Each of the main characters were instantly likable and easy to connect to. Watching them learn to love themselves after they thought their lot in life was determined and final was so addictive. The chemistry was off the charts and the emotions were on high! Loved loved loved! The narration was wonderful as well. The delivery really painted a picture in my mind while I was listening and made connecting with everyone that much better.

Big fan and definitely one I will listen to again and again!

Loved this one!

5 Stars

Who said being famous is all it’s cracked up to be? Tanner Reese is THE hottest chef on TV right now, but is desperate for a change. He’s spending way more time in front of a camera (shirtless) these days than cooking. Rita is a newly filed for divorce woman after finding out about her husband’s affair. Both are struggling with so much personally, they shouldn’t want to jump into another relationship so quickly, but soon learn they are miserable apart. I LOVED these two together. Both smarta$$es to their core (my people!), their banter (and chemistry) is off the chains.

I loved this book from page one. Tanner is tall, gorgeous, can cook like a dream, and a total momma’s boy. He’s a little broken and Rita is just what he needs to put himself back together. Rita is a strong independent woman who is having to dig deep to find that strength right now after realizing she has wasted seven years of her life with a man that did nothing but try to change her. Aly Martinez’s writing is, as always, impeccable. Tanner and Rita’s story just flows, and I found myself unable to stop listening. The narrators do a great job bringing this story to life.
