About this listen

Featuring a new preface read by David Baldacci.

Set at the heart of political power in Washington DC, Absolute Power was the book which launched David Baldacci's career as a worldwide bestseller of thrilling fiction. The movie, starring Clint Eastwood, was a major box office success across the world.

In a heavily guarded mansion in the Virginian countryside, professional burglar and break-in artist, Luther Whitney, is trapped behind a one-way mirror. What he witnesses destroys his faith not only in justice, but all he holds dear.

What follows is an unthinkable abuse of power and a criminal conspiracy, as a breathtaking cover-up is set in motion by those appointed to work for one of the most important people in the world – the President of the United States.

Critic reviews

One of the hottest reads around
Tears apart the conventions of contemporary thriller and rearranges them into a narrative of explosive tension and palpable menace
Baldacci is a first-rate storyteller who grabs readers by their lapels right away and won’t let go until they’ve finished his enthralling yarn.

This was the book that began david baldacci's writing career and you can see why he is one of the best at what he does. Great action thrillers. I was so happy to see that audible finally had this book to download. Scott does another great job of narrating this book. If you want a good listen then this is the book for you.

Nice listen.

I've read many of david Baldacci 's books, and decided to give this a once over. The book is well narrated and paced nicely to keep you coming back for more. Possibly one of the best books I've listened to / read of all time 👍

Brilliant

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes it is entertaining, and that's the point of these books/audiobooks after all. You don't need to think too hard about the plot or the characters as they are clearly drawn and, basically, pretty straightforward.

What did you like best about this story?

It goes at a great pace, with the next plot development very far away.

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

He's the master narrator for this sort of stuff - easy to listen to for a long stretch in the car, for example.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not moved as such, but it is satisfying when the story neatly comes to the final scene, carefully crafted throughout the book.

Any additional comments?

It you like Baldacci, or Scott Brick, then go for this one - they are both on great form.

Exactly what I was expecting!

Love all David Baldacci books, this was a good as all the others. This I believe was his first book and it is excellent.

It was an amazing, clever and well crafted story. Just when you thought it was concluding another incident occurred which was either unexpected or really unwanted. There were a few predictable moments - but only a very few.

I must say, although the narrator was ok, he did sound a bit monotonal or monotempoed - if that’s a word! When things got exciting, he didn’t speed up but just sounded wistful or as if it was all just inevitable.

Brilliant story with cliffhangers!
