About this listen

Adventures in a helicopter

Adrian Bleese spent 12 years flying on police helicopters, and attended almost 3,000 incidents, as one of only a handful of civilian air observers working anywhere in the world.

In Above the Law, he recounts the most intriguing, challenging, amusing, and downright baffling episodes in his career working for Suffolk Constabulary and the National Police Air Service. Rescuing lost walkers, chasing cars down narrow country lanes, searching for a rural cannabis factory, and disrupting an illegal forest rave…they’re all in a day’s work.

It’s a side of policing that most of us never see, and he describes it with real compassion as he lives his dream job, indulging his love of flying, the English landscape, and helping people. Perhaps more than anything, it’s a story about hope.

Very unusual to find an autobiography that's read by the author and done well. Fun book and I like the dry wit.

Too short.

i must have browsed hundreds of synopses before choosing this book to read. my gut feeling reading the reviews were spot on. ideal christmas gift for someone into history, geography, aviation, crime, etc. how many books have this diversity? the author as narrator works very well too.

highly ìnformative, very entertaining

Very good listen.

Adrian's dry, witty style and raconteur approach make this a nice book to learn more about the life of a police helicopter crew in the "old days" when the choppers were powered by petrol and "copper's instinct" and not accountants with slide rules. Don't buy this looking for a "Blue Thunder" experience but you'll grin when you listen to the anecdotes.

A fun listen if you like police things
