Summary

Lights! Camera! Homicide!

Contractor Shannon Hammer has to dig through murder suspects in the latest Fixer-Upper Mystery from the New York Times best-selling author of Eaves of Destruction and Once upon a Spine.

Don't miss the Hallmark Movies and Mystery Originals starring Jewel, based on the Fixer-Upper Mystery series!

Shannon Hammer’s younger sister, Chloe, left Lighthouse Cove after high school to make it big in Hollywood. And she did it! Chloe is the cohost of a popular home-repair show on the Home Builders Network. Now, after 10 years, she has returned to their quaint coastal hometown to film several shows featuring her sister, Shannon, along with some special mini-segments on Victorian style and design.

But Shannon quickly realizes that things are not exactly blissful in TV land. Bree, the executive producer of the show, has a knack for stirring up sticky situations, and when she’s found dead, Chloe and the entire crew are under suspicion. Shannon, her thriller-writer boyfriend, Mac, and their crime-solving friends soon unearth the real reason Chloe left home.

Is that 10-year-old secret connected to Bree’s death? And can Shannon track down the real killer before her beloved sister becomes the next victim?

Sisters on camera

I enjoyed this story line. The different roles each sister has
In their shared vocational passions gives good insight into their personalities. The unexpected trouble that haunts Chloe was a surprise for me. It is well designed and described.
I’m eager for the next book to be released on Audible!

Go back to the regular narrator

The story was great but this new narrator just doesn't do it. Too many of the voices sound the same with no differention allowing us to know who is who. Please rethink this for future titles that you record.

No action, drags on until at least ch. 5...

Waaayyy too much dialogue about nothing, introducing and reintroducing characters. Needs more action and mystery. Narrator good.

Wrecked work

The story could have been interesting but didn’t move along well. Boring, predictable dialogue. Really bad narration. Let me qualify, the reader speaks well, enunciates, but doesn’t distinguish the characters. Impossible to differentiate between the female characters except for the Scottish owner of the tea room. Unfortunately that accent is painful to hear.

A cozy delight

Out of all the books in the series this one was my favorite. I really enjoyed meeting Shannon’s sister, and the interaction of them together on set & at home. When a string of murders (and attempted murders) begin to plague a renovation Shannon has to jump in and investigate to help clear her sisters name. The mystery is well written, the characters are perfectly narrated & there are plenty of red herrings!

Another great installment

Shannon's sister Chloe comes to town to shoot an episode of her tv show and who better to help her out than Shannon. Along the way, we learn why Chloe has stayed away for so long (you'll have to read it yourself to find out why). There are many twists and turns and laughs throughout the story and I never did guess who the culprit was. As always, finishing one of Kate's books leaves me hungry for the next in the series.
I normally read books and only listen to audiobooks while driving to and from work. However, I was given a copy of this one for free in exchange for leaving a review. It takes much longer to listen to a book than to read it! Hearing the story in the different voices of the characters does add to the overall experience though. I would have given it 5 stars but most of the women's voices sounded the same to me; I could not distinguish between them based on the voices alone.

Shannon Gets the Upper Hammer Again

I like the narrator of the previous books better. My cat listens to audio books with me and he also prefers the other narrators voice.
The plot is great! There is a romantic surprise. Shannons sister Chloe returns home and the ending makes you wonder if she may be home to stay.
Whitney gets caught in a lie...finally by another character....listen if you want to know if this is life changing for her.

Boring

Too much pointless story I gave up before the murder was committed. I found it very boring.

Pink Tools on Air

In the past titles of this very charming series, older homes have been repaired and renovated by a female contractor and her crew. In every book, there has been one or more murders that have subsequently been solved by our heroine. As the characters have developed, part of the back story included a sister who had left home and was working in a TV series. In this novel, the sister, a co-host of a home improvement show, visits Lighthouse Cove. The show was going to feature the renovation of one of the Victorian homes that the area is known for.

I loved the way that even more of the back story is revealed throughout the book. There were several more bodies before the resolution. Shannon even appears on camera with her sister and without. Romantic ends are nicely tied up, including one that has been outstanding since the first novel. I genuinely enjoyed this. I was sent the audio title free in exchange for an honest review.
