About this listen

Book three in the heartwarming wartime saga in the Home Fires series, perfect for fans of Rosie Clarke and Annie Groves.

In the midst of World War II, the members of one village WI fight harder than ever to help the war effort.

But behind closed doors, each is fighting a more personal battle.

Pat Simms is reeling from her own role in her abusive husband's death, and the new freedom before her is daunting. Sarah Collingborne is struggling with the absence of her husband, who is stranded in a POW camp abroad, and trying her best to fill his treasured place in the village.

Meanwhile, Teresa Lucas is anxious about her future as a parent, and her friend Alison Scotlock is on the verge of starting a new relationship. And Miriam Brindsley's good luck might be about to change.

Grieving for men already lost and anxious for those still away fighting, the women of Great Paxford must rely on each other. Amidst the complexities of broken relationships, loss and friendship, this group of very different women must work together to find a way through.

Sometimes when you finish reading a book there is a sense of sadness that you cannot experience the joy of reading it afresh. I felt like this when I finished reading the series.
Would like to thank the author for a happy ending for Pat, I cursed and swore along with her at Bob, and was empathising with her every inch of the way. She seemed an unlikely heroine, but carried me through all the way.
I was disappointed when there was no more filming of the books.
Well read too, it is amazing how a bad reader can utterly spoil a damned good book, not so in this case. 5stars all round.

Loved the tv series loved the books.

Really enjoyed this war time story. Lots of secrets and insights into what goes on behind closed doors. Hope abounds though, right to the end.

after watching Home fires on U I was gutted to find 2 series only with a cliff hanger. the story is finally completed in this third installment read beautifully and articulately by Fenalla Woolgar who has a fabulous impression of all the characters so much so I could imagine Francesca Annis Ruth Gemmell and Samantha Bond characters perfectly. obviously she had Alison down to T as she played her in the show some might know her better as Sister Hilda in call the midwife! Thoroughly enjoyed it all which made me wish the tv show was back on. don't think Ruth can be spares from bridgerton.

Finally got my Home Fire ending
