Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

After coming terrifyingly close to suicide, Jake Tyler was determined to take back control of his life from the clutches of depression.

With only a pair of walking boots and a backpack, he left his home town of Maldon and began a 3,000-mile walk around the British mainland. In documenting every step of his adventure, Jake shares the ways in which his road to recovery was enhanced by the kindness of strangers, who helped him to better understand himself and the power of human connection.

This is both the story of Jake's lap of the UK and also of his journey to finding peace within himself and with the world around him.

What a drama queen, this book made me want to die by end of chapter one.

What is this guys problem???? He works in a pub and that is boring but god he had no real problems.
The first chapter literally drained the life out of me. I was contemplating suicide as long as it meant the end of his monotone melancholy.
Avoid if you ever want to feel happy again.

Remarkably human

Which shouldn’t be so rare a thing.
Jake’s reliably unfussy tone made it all more authentic. And authenticity is perhaps the most beautiful thing about the entire project.
Should be required reading, or listening, in every high school across the land. For kids who get chewed up by the system, for every child made to feel at 14 that the only thing they have to look forward to is 9-5, and for every 16 year old made to feel if they don’t have a stack of good grade's they have already failed at life. This man is the role model our young people need.

Refreshingly honest

I heard Jake on the Zoe Ball breakfast show and immediately downloaded the book.

I was hooked from the first chapter, perhaps it was the added openness of hearing it directly from Jake that added to the authenticity of this book but I found myself listening at every opportunity.

Jake’s story/journey/account is one that opens your eyes, your heart and your mind!
