Great Story!
This kept all of us, my 7 year old daughter, 9 year old son, husband and me all hooked. It was a really imaginative and unusual story. My daughter found some of the descriptions of the eyes a little gory, but it was perfectly pitched to provide a little mild horror without being too scary. Would highly recommend.

AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING!
This book is a great choice for anyone who wants to step into another world. Not only does it make you question about the world/story but it makes you realise that there is such a thing as, 'too perfect.' I love how imaginative the story was, the unique characters and how easy it was to read it then fall into the story. It really was quite addictive. Also, the theme of family and friends throughout the book gives you a nice sense of understanding and comfort. The narrator was good too.
However, the only bad thing is that the plot was very predictable and I had the basic idea of what was going on in the second chapter of the story. This meant that you felt the writer did not make it that hard for you to figure it out, unless this was intended for younger people like 10yr olds.
I myself am 13 and really enjoyed the book, despite this. Overall, I think anyone who gets this story will not regret it because of the relatable characters and captivating story. This is a very easy, exciting read that everyone can love.

Fantastic!
This book was absolutely incredible! The only thing is that the narrator was a bit annoying but the story was fab. I would recommend this book to 9-12 year olds because there is a surprising amount of violence. Great book totally recommended!

Nice story, narration read for small children
I listened to this with my 12 year old and we liked the concept of the story, although it got a bit difficult to follow at the end.
The narrator increasingly used a high pitched sing song type of voice for the child characters which didn’t suit them and got quite annoying for both of us in the end!

blooming loved it!
I've flitted around from all of Phillip Pullman's novels in one go, to gritty police drana/thrillers ,.historically based mysteries and back to a right good story aimed at youngsters and I have always known that this is my go to genre and I'm 48....and I will not apologise for it. Such imagination and humour and a VERY good reader too, totally recommend!!!

Scarier than expected
This is really quite spooky and scary. It also contains a surprising amount of moderate violence. A broadly predictable plot, but wonderfully grotesque character and setting. Nice to have a girl hero who is clever and brave, but realistically so.
