About this listen

The House of Farrell - home of The Cream, an iconic face product that has seen women flocking to its bijoux flagship store in the Berkeley Arcade since 1953.

At Farrell, you can rely on the personal touch. The legendary Athina Farrell remains the company's figurehead and in her kingdom at the Berkeley Arcade, Florence Hamilton plies their cosmetics with the utmost discretion. She is sales advisor - and holder of secrets - extraordinaire.

But of course the world of cosmetics is changing and the once glorious House of Farrell is now in decline, its customers tempted away by more fashionable brands.

Enter Bianca Bailey, formidable business woman, mother of three, and someone who always gets her way. Athina and Bianca lock horns over the future of the House of Farrell but it is the past that tells its devastating tale of ambition and ego, passion and wonder.

Here is a tale of survival ... and a kind of promise.

What a captivating story, brilliantly narrated. If, like me, you love to listen while you do the boring housework you won't be sorry with this, in fact I listened rather than watch the television. Highly recommended.

A GREAT LONG LISTEN!

What made the experience of listening to A Perfect Heritage the most enjoyable?

The narrator who grew on me. At first I wasn't too sure about her voice register but grew to see she could alter it and that it was just right for the book. The story and the interwoven lives of those working at the group intrigued me. This was not a very deep and meaningful book but entertaining and a good listen.rather like a documentary glimpse into lives very different to my own.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the central idea and build up to ,the launch,. I loved Florence and her long affair with Cornelius. The conflict between her work and family for Bianca would make so many women identify. Would that it was so easy to solve for all women. Still this is more fantasy and entertainment.

Have you listened to any of Sandra Duncan’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No others but enjoyed this.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The smell of success.

What a lovely long book to get completely absorbed in. And when it finally finished, I still wasn’t ready to let go of the characters. Just didn’t want it to end.

I already have my next Penny Vincenzi lined up!
