I have listened to all of Miss Read’s Fairacre books and all of them a wonderful glimpse into a slower pace of country life. I cannot wait to move on to the Thrush Green series, but will always have these old friends to return to. Perfect Sunday afternoon listening. Thank you Miss Read.

What a delicious treat! Whichever way I look at it, I cannot find a single flaw in any of Miss Read's books. And "A Peaceful Retirement" is another piece of flawless, dreamy, gentle escapism and nostalgia that fills my heart with immense joy.

I wish I could give 10 stars!

I was so incredibly pleased Miss Read kept spurning her admirers and was happy alone! So often in novels the woman is desperate for a man and feels like she can’t cope without one.

Sian was an excellent narrator. I hope she has done some of the Thrush Green books!
