About this listen

Filled with stunning revelations, here is the sensational memoir of one of Hollywood’s most talented and troubled stars—an inspirational true tale of survival and triumph against all odds

Though she has shunned the media spotlight, Academy Award-winning actress Tatum O’Neal at last goes on the record to tell her story-a tale of personal turmoil and ultimate triumph that is part Hollywood tell-all, part Greek tragedy, and part Shakespearean drama.

In her trademark no-holds-barred style, she names names as she chronicles the ups and downs of being Hollywood royalty, including

• her nearly fatal addiction to drugs

• her destructive relationships with mother, the late actress Joanna Moore; her famously overbearing and flamboyant father, Ryan O’Neal and his former longtime live-in love, Farrah Fawcett; and her wildly explosive ex-husband, international tennis pro John McEnroe

• her early years-a time of tubulence, loneliness, and abuse-as a virtual orphan forced to raise herself and her “Irish twin,” younger brother, Griffin

• her explosive, untold stories of the top figures in pop culture and sports

Ultimately, we see the emergence of an extremely gifted, spirited, and intelligent woman—the ultimate survivor who is a role model to all women.

Anyone who has grown up with a narcissistic parent knows only too well how hard it is. In Tatum's case, she had both parents who were self-centred. Is it any wonder she went off the rails at times & had difficutlies with adult relationships, same with her brothers who also struggled. I read recently that Ryan left his children out of his will to which Tatum responded "Keep it! Motherf***er". Even at the end, Ryan & his children could not agree to disagree & he always had to have the final say. Tatum may not be an angel & also may have hurt people along the way but she suffered a great deal & had a very isolated childhood. I can't imagine how hard it is when your own parent is envious of your success. A real eye opener of a book. Wishing Tatum the best! Highly recommended.

The neglect Tatum endured is unbelievable and just shows you never know what goes on behind closed doors. On the outside you would think she led a charmed existence.

The narration wasn’t the best. Rushed in parts, and sounded very much like Tatum was reading the words out loud but not paying attention to them.

I really sympathise with what Tatum went through but it felt like she was laying all the blame at Ryan and John’s door and not taking any real responsibility herself. If I was a spouse in that position of course I’d expect drug tests before seeing the kids.

Fascinating sad story
