Summary

From the Best-Selling Author of The Rules of Supervillainy:

Jane Doe has settled into her new role as the Shaman of Bright Falls but that doesn't pay the bills. With her boyfriend off chasing his evil father, Jane has decided to take up a job as security on the set of horror movies being filmed in her hometown. Unfortunately, the crew have been threatened by an ominous force that quickly sets its sights on Jane herself.

Complicating matters is that Jane's past sins are coming back to haunt her with her vengeful cousins still blaming her for the death of their sister. Her complicated relationships with Alex and Lucien are also about to come to a head. Enjoy the final installment of the Bright Falls Mysteries! It's deerlightful!

Set in the same universe as Straight Outta Fangton, The Morgan Detective Agency, Red Room Trilogy, and Psycho Killers in Love.

Is this the end? I hope not.

The Brightfalls mysteries--I loved the first two books and was a little apprehensive about this third one. I think there have been some crossover stories with other series the author has written and I was concerned I might miss out on important plot points. I needn't have worried. This is as snark and pun filled as the previous two and though there are references to the author's other works, just like his pop culture references, some are included as a nod to those in the know and don't detract from the story if you don't. The plot zips along and there's a lot of satisfying tying up of loose ends from the previous novels. I particularly like how the characters, and Jane in particular, have really grown over the course of the series and within each novel. In many ways they seem to be 'living' between the pages. My only complaint is that this seems to mark the end of the series but hopefully there'll be more from Jane in future as a main character.

The narration was spot on and really captured all the different characters' personalities.

Nice trilogy wrap up

In some respects Jane has come a long way since book one and in others she hasn’t. She’s still very much winging it through this episode.

I like how the world building is now intertwining elements from the wider United States of Monsters. It brings a depth to the story for those whoever read the authors other works. I don’t think it would detract from the story though for those who haven’t.

I’m still not a fan of the Jane, Alex, Lucian triangle and that’s why it’s 4*. However, I look forward to seeing more of Jane Doe.

Narration is excellent.
