Brilliant story
This story was sad funny and frustrating all at the same time. You could feel the mothers sadness at her lack of bonding with her baby when I
everyone else seemed to achieve it effortlessly. The twist in the tail was unexpected but welcome

Heartbreaking but a great listen
If I’m honest I found Matt and Jessica’s romance sickly at the start but it only serves to juxtapose what happens later. I think this should be read by anyone whose thinking of having a baby. Not to scare them but to try and let them know that if they start to feel way off kilter after the birth of their baby, not to feel ashamed about saying how they feel and getting professional help for everyone’s sake. I think most if not all new mums struggle with the huge change in their life’s but jess really is very ill. The audio really brought the story to life for me. After listening to it I had to go and watch my baby girl sleeping and cherished her all the more. Thanks for shining a light on a topic that isn’t written about enough in fiction. Very happy the story ended with hope and love.

What does Amanda Prowse bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
/
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
there should be films dealing with this oh so thorny heartbreak...
Any additional comments?
I was all set for the outcome to be sadder, and it made my heart smile that I was wrong :)

Absolutely loved this book.
Where does A Mother's Story rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
In it's genre, very close to the top.
What did you like best about this story?
I felt as though the author had either experienced this, or had done very good research indeed. I felt her pain. Couldn't stop listening to it.
Which character – as performed by Amanda Prowse – was your favourite?
Jess. No doubt. Polly was also very refreshing too.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Both, but mostly made me think long and hard about the women who really do go through this. Yes, I shed tears, and as one point found it quite hard listening.
Any additional comments?
I heard the crack in the author/narrator's voice at a certain chapter point. I won't say, but she really gave the impression of pure emotion. Very though provoking. Made me realise that I had been fortunate indeed.

Very moving
I enjoyed this book although the subject matter was enormously sad. I found it quite informative as I have not experienced post natal depression and know no one who has. I thought the husband was a saint but a bit obtuse until the situation unravelled and her parents might have intervened earlier but I realise that this may be a simplistic way of looking at the problem. I thought it was well written with good narration.

A well written but heartbreakingly sad story
Such a sad story but post natal depression is sad and it needs to be discussed more openly ,not just touched upon, really discussed in detail just like in this book. Very hard to listen to but fairly true to life. This audible book made me cry and smile.

Superb audio, poor story
I listened to this on Audible, and I have to say I loved Amanda Prowse’s voice and it was a very good recording. I certainly will try other books of hers on Audible. However, I’m not so positive when it comes to the story.
Initially I found it painfully annoying how innocent Matthew and Jess were about pregnancy. I was almost surprised with their innocence that they managed to get Jess pregnant in the first place! However, I began to think how useful this may be to new young parents into the world of pregnancy and birth. But then, this made what unravelled even more horrific. No new parent would want to hear the remaining story!
Whilst the topic of postnatal depression and even postpartum psychosis is an important one, this book would give nightmares to any first-time parents. Whilst I felt sympathy for Jess, the depression continued to extreme proportions until she became psychotic and I found it unrealistic that those around her did not find her the right support or care before the tragic incident towards the end.
It is a harrowing tale that I would NOT recommend to anyone who is planning a pregnancy anytime soon. I enjoyed a previous book I read by this author, so will try another of her books, but this one was not for me
