Summary

Jenny Weston moves home to Bear Falls, Michigan, to nurse her bruised ego back to health after a bitter divorce. But the idyllic vision of her charming hometown crumbles when her mother's little library is destroyed.

The next-door neighbor, Zoe Zola, a little person and Lewis Carroll enthusiast, suspects local curmudgeon Adam Cane. But when he's suddenly found dead in Zoe's fairy garden, all roads lead back to her. Jenny, however, believes Zoe is innocent, so the two women team up to find the true culprit, investigating the richest family in Bear Falls, interrogating a few odd townspeople, and delving into old, hidden transgressions - until another body turns up.

Inspired by Alice in Wonderland, Elizabeth Kane Buzzelli's quaint and compelling series debut will delight cozy mystery fans new and old.

Too much drama.

The story was good but the reader seemed to make everything a big drama. It could have used a little humor. The characters were interesting. I guess I wanted to see a little more retribution towards Jenny's ex-husband. Otherwise I enjoyed the book.

Cute

Everything you enjoy from a cozy mystery! I particularly enjoyed the quirky neighbor, Zoe and although I'm not an Alice in Wonderland fan, I like her regular quotes.

Interesting twist with __Alice in Wonderland_

(As posted in GoodReads.)
It was entertaining. Some aspects for more the little predictable, but there definitely were surprises. The characters were interesting and interestingly developed. I was disappointed with the ending, but I know that was just me.

Nice surprise

A bit of an Eeyore beginning... but a nice tale well told and time well spent. A nice job of developing an attachment to the characters which which made me care about the outcome.

Three and a half maybe four stars

This is an interesting story. Jenny Weston returns home after her marriage fails. She encounters her ex boyfriend who is now a drunk and womanizer, meets a new potential love interest and discovers two murders. The mystery is good with well developed ideas and a good pace. However, I have a problem with the characters. The lead character and the love interest are realistic and well developed, but, there are a couple of other characters who are unbelievable and either too good to be true or just plain odd. I found the balance of the characters problematic and I skipped over a lot of dialogue because of it. I also found it unrealistic that in the first book both the ex husband and the ex boyfriend get their comeuppance. Everything gets wrapped up with a neat pink bow for a happy ending. Despite the negatives, the mystery is very good and I actually enjoyed it despite it peculiarities. If there are other books in this series I would read it.

May have been a good book if not for the narration

I couldn’t take the “little person” Zoe Zola for one more second. The voice is so awful. Just grating. If you can stand it for the first chapter you may enjoy the book.
