About this listen

A wonderfully witty and brutally honest story about female friendship.

Meet Helen. She worries that the walls are closing in. With her children grown and her selfish husband away again, she's full of regrets at not taking the exciting paths she dreamed about in her youth. So when the chance of a last-minute holiday to Cyprus with her two best friends is offered, she grabs it.

Meet Caro. A successful city analyst. Single and childless, she's not in Cyprus for the glorious sunshine and crystal-blue waters. But her secret feels so shameful she can't bring herself to share it.

Meet Kay. Sandwiched between the needs of a grown-up son with learning difficulties and elderly parents, all she wants to do is sleep in the sun, preferably all week.

As Caro's secret emerges, tensions between the women explode.

Friendship was easy when they were young, how can it be so hard now?

A Midlife Holiday is the life-affirming first tale in The Midlife Trilogy women's fiction series. Funny, emotional, compassionate and wise, Cary J Hansson shows us why middle-aged women are only just getting started!

Prepare to meet three new friends you'll feel you've known all your life!

For the most part good but be when voicing characters the narrator gave them all Australian accents

I really enjoyed this book. Three friends Helen, Caro and Kay go on holiday to Cyprus together, all with different reasons for going. The story is told through the three women’s perspectives and the issues and barriers they face to achieve a happy midlife.
It’s a great read, I couldn’t stop listening. I loved it from start to finish. I look forward to seeing where this trio of friends head next in the Midlife series. I would definitely recommend this book. It’s well worth a listen.

A beautifully narrated, funny and relatable easy to listen to story about friendships but with so much more than that.

A thoroughly enjoyable read/listen! I loved the characters who weren’t the usual beautiful young people. There were some very relatable moments which made me laugh even though some were quite poignant. Managing to convey the drudgery of life with heartbreak and hilarity. The descriptions of Cyprus were delightful and made me want to return. A feel good, easy reading/listening book, great for the beach. A touch of Shirley Valentine but with more depth. I’m looking forward to the next in the series.

Usually not my type of book, but wanted something to relax with. That's what it did. Quite good subject, like the friendship idea. Will buy the next books in the series are getting into them now and appreciate the light subject matter.

Relatable characters, a wonderful setting and a depth of storytelling not usually seen in this genre. The narrator was excellent and really brought the tale to life. I highly recommend it.
