Summary

A Life in Trauma is a frank, remarkable account of a career spent helping others, offering a positive outlook on the potential of Ireland’s healthcare system in the future.

Concern. Compassion. Doubt. Despair. Anger. Hope.

Imagine juggling these feelings every day in a situation where your work could mean the difference between someone's life or death.

For Dr Chris Luke, a consultant in emergency medicine, these experiences are an intrinsic part of the job – ranging from rage at a system that often leaves vulnerable people waiting anxiously, to the incomparable satisfaction of relieving patients’ suffering and distress.

This revealing memoir takes us on a rollercoaster journey from Chris's days as an orphanage boy through to becoming one of the leading emergency physicians in the country.

There’s a lot to like

It took me until the third chapter to really enjoy this book. I am delighted I stuck with it because from then on it became a very enjoyable listen.
I loved the honesty, the humanity, the self reflection, the humility and the growth in Chris Lukes life. I enjoyed listening to his perspectives on both the Irish, English and Scottish health service.

Highly Recommended

This was a highly engaging and moreish book…giving a painfully honest and heartfelt account of a truly unique career…warts and all!

Being read by the author adds a genuine passion to the story and welcomes the listener into the author’s world, to join him on the journey of the many highs and lows of his life to date.

A truly unique and profoundly interesting career, beautifully synopsised and articulated in this audiobook.
