About this listen

A Life Unraveled is the story of kindergarten teacher Lily Gallo, who is a happily married mother of three with a perfect life - until the day she is brutally attacked while out for a run.

Lily grew up on a farm and always considered herself resilient. But when the small town’s high school football hero is arrested and convicted for the attack, Lily and her family suffer retaliation from some of the community, enticing Lily to wrap herself in an opioid cloud. When she puts her daughters’ lives in jeopardy, the wake-up call motivates Lily to flush the narcotics and clean up her life. But the clarity she expects is overshadowed by unnerving memory lapses.

As unexplained events become more disturbing, Lily believes that, although her attacker started the destruction, someone else is determined to finish it.

I loved listening to A Life Unraveling with its twists and turns. It kept you guessing. Great narration . There was nothing that I didn’t like about it

Flowed beautifully with a surprising ending

Lily, a wife mother and teacher, is viciously beaten up and nearly killed, by a school boy. But why?
The book charts her recovery and the impact it has on her and her young family.
But her attacker, a somewhat troubled lad, spending most of his life in care,is a rising football star. The school friends of the eldest daughter and some of the community, become very hostile towards the family. He is given a short custodial sentence,
She becomes quite dependent on opioids but does on occasions display bizarre behaviour. Strange things start happening and Lily feels she is being watched.
A slow recovery, but a return to work and some sort of normality to daily life ensue. Almost a year later, the husband, Luke, almost drowns. Once again serious family trauma.
Lily is convinced someone is targeting the family. She goes to watch him being released from prison, who will be picking him up? The result shocks her to the core. Some secret voice recording and all is revealed. The family make it through and valuing life itself.
Not a bad listen, if you can get past the American accent!

What a difference a day makes.

The reader does a reasonable execution of the plot not overly dramatic but a good sense of tension. Story itself generally moves forward at a good pace- I listened in one go on my day off

A good listen
