Summary

Dorothy meets a handsome young man with an eye for her inheritance while she is in her sophomore year. They are to be married, and her life will be blissful; but Dorothy is pregnant, and her fiancé's plans are ruined, for Dorothy would be disinherited if her father discovered the truth.

So the young man provides his bride-to-be with some pills that will solve the problem. Soon there will be no baby - and perhaps no Dorothy either....

A Kiss Before Dying, Levin's first novel, earned him the 1954 Edgar Award for Best First Novel and is regarded as a modern classic.

Good story. Average narration

Irritating narrator spoiled this a little. Found it considerably better played at 1.2x speed
Nice 50s murder mystery

Wow! So well-written

I found it hard to get into this for quite a while, but now I know the slow start was necessary. After about 20% of the story, the ball gets rolling, then I found it gripping and addictive. It’s so unpredictable. One for Mr Ripley fans! Good narration too.

Brilliant

The best audiobook I've listened to for a while. Excellent narration and such superb writing and characterisation. I stayed awake in the early hours just to finish this.

DON'T LISTEN TO THE INTRODUCTION!

I had next to no idea what this book was about and wished it had stayed that way. But, the introduction gives a good idea of what is going to come and I wished I hadn't heard it first. It's not a huge spoiler but enough of one to map out the first half of the book and I'd rather have not known in advance.
Do though listen afterwards as it is an interesting piece.
That said, the book is brilliant. A beautifully crafted novel that had me gripped from start to finish. Highly recommended.

Superb

Utterly gripping. I would go as far as to say 'masterpiece'. And generally I find most books not as good as I'd hoped... Levin was 23 when he wrote this. Remarkable.
I've been married for 12 years and this is the first time I've ever pestered my wife to read something. I just REALLY want to talk to her about it. She's just read the first few pages and is IN.
The narration is also excellent and really catches the strange nature of the tale.
In short, the best novel I've read for a long time. Do yourself a favour and get it.
