Summary

A killer’s mind is her playground.

Three Chicago women have been found strangled, embalmed, and posed as if still alive. Doubting the findings of the local PD’s profiler, the FBI calls on forensic psychologist Zoe Bentley to investigate.

Zoe quickly gets off on the wrong foot with her new partner, Special Agent Tatum Gray. Zoe’s a hunter, intense and focused; Tatum’s a smug maverick with little respect for the rules. Together, they must descend into a serial killer’s psyche and untangle his twisted fantasies, or more women will die. But when the contents of three inconspicuous envelopes reveal a chilling connection to gruesome murders from Zoe’s childhood, suddenly the hunter becomes the hunted.

Great

The book was great, tense, fast paced, easy to follow. Predictable to the way it makes you feel smart, but fresh and full off unexpected turns that keeps you interested. One of the best crime/detectives i read/listened in quite some time.

a good read.

a good read overall. However, it is slightly macabre and unsettling entering the killers mind.

Hooked me from the beginning...

I was so glad to see this book as a kindle first pick so I was able to purchase the audiobook for $1.99. Honestly, I would have paid a credit for it regardless, this book is that good. I listened to Mike Omer's Glenmore Park mystery series and he instantly became an author I watch for.
This book has similarities to to his previous series. A police/FBI procedural with the protagonist having a younger sister who needs protecting and a deranged serial killer who initially appears very innocuous.
The story is told from different points of view including the killer's. You don't get to find out the why until almost the end.
Brittany Pressley does a great job narrating. She does speak kind of slow so I had to listen with the narration speed increased.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

This was so good! 5 stars!!

First time I've read this author and let me say it wouldn't be my last! I loved this book! Finished it in one day as I couldn't stop listening to it! Loved the character's and the narrator was fantastic! Great story line...and I have to say there was some humor in it as well....which I don't think is often said to describe this type of genre....but it was so good. Can't wait for book #2....and in the mean time I will definitely check out his other books! Best audio of the summer!

Made worse by one lame FBI Agent

How can anyone respect an FBI agent who can't tell the difference between his own cat or a prowler? I mean.. seriously? He then loses me even more by requesting that Zoe come join him in an investigation.. but then quickly proceeds (in so many words) to tell her that her profiling skills are basically useless. I think that whole scenario was all about manufacturing the oh-so-lame tension between these two in order to facilitate grudging respect and eventually (gasp!) ...a blooming romance. No cliche here.. The book is not all bad though.. I liked the grandfather a lot, even if he is a bit over-done, and there is some pretty clever dialog. The narration was excellent but that's not enough to overcome the shortcomings, so this will probably be my first and last book in this series.

Loved the book and the narration..

I have to go with the 15,000+ four and five star reviewers that liked/loved this book. I really, really liked it and I will definitely read more from this author. As with most books you can find something silly or stupid or immature or vulgar or sick, or whatever in it, but I look past that and ask myself if the murder mystery/suspense was good or was it all of the above descriptions. Yeah, it was good. I liked that it was about MAYBE 2 serial killers, you had to wait until the end to find out. Was it the killer from Zoe’s childhood or was it someone else.

I liked Tatum and Zoe and I was rooting for them to get romantically involved, just a little romance, though. But, alas, it was not to be. I also liked her sister Andrea, as a little girl and as a grownup.

I thought it was amazing that Zoe started reading everything she could find on forensic profiling when she was 14 years old, when 3 girls she knew were murdered, and continued with that career until she became a Forensic Pathologist for the FBI. And at 14 she profiled the real killer but no one believed her because of her age. However, the killer she’s profiled when she was young tried to kill her again while she was working for the FBI BUT he got away and we’ll find out nothing about him until the next book in JUNE of 2019.

No romance and the F-bomb was used 1 time.

As to the narration: GREAT! Brittany Pressley has certainly come a long way recently. Not only with her voices but with the emotions when she reads. I enjoyed her narration immensely.

Another thing I loved, loved, loved about this book was that it WAS NOT written in the first person.

A good book with an interesting main character and plot.

I listened to the Audible version as it was included in my read for free Kindle Unlimited subscription. I enjoy The Audible versions because they allow me to do other tasks while enjoying a good and well written book. The narrator was good, her voice was easy to listen too. A Good book can be ruined by a poor narrator. Good and unusual plot, kept my interest even though at times it went along a bit slowly when the main character repeatedly went back to a past event which is key to the plot. I will read or listen to other books by Mike Omer.

Fantastic, fantastic, story!!

I got this originally as a Kindle First book and then upgraded to the Audio version for $1.99 (only). I've never read or listened to this author before so I was happy to get the deal. But, it really wasn't needed. This is a fantastic story! The characters are great. The storyline was seriously amazing. Of course, I'm really into the psychological stories... and this one was fabulous! Marvin was where the down time was at! He was a riot!

The narrator was perfect too! Brittany Pressley was expressive and upbeat.
