About this listen

All they ever wanted was somewhere to call home…

Beaten

When Jenny’s mother abandons her and her younger siblings, Jenny is left at the mercy of her abusive father Henry. And when Henry beats his eldest daughter so badly that she ends up in the hospital, it seems like there’s nowhere left for them all to go.

Broken

But carpenter Craig has fallen head over heels for Jenny, and he offers her a place to stay. Happy at last, Jenny begins a new life with him, but when tragedy strikes, she’s left to pick up the pieces of both her broken home – and her broken heart.

Bereft

Desperately trying to make ends meet, Jenny is alone and working round the clock. Will she ever be able to give her siblings the happy home they deserve? Or is the worst yet to come…?

The Sunday Times bestseller is back in a gritty family drama, perfect for fans of Nadine Dorries and Dilly Court.

My Audible library is absolutely teeming with crime, detective, gangster and mystery books so listening to Kitty Neales has been an unexpected break from the norm. I was searching books narrated by Annie Aldington after I finished Kerry Barnes' latest, and I accidentally bought Not My Child - the first in the Battersea Tavern series. I am now completely hooked on Kitty Neales books and the stories of yesteryear in London.
As an HGV driver, I spend a lot of time alone and Annie Aldington brings the books she narrates to life so much, it's like being inside the story and watching from a inside seat.
So far, I have not listened to one Kitty Neale book that I have not thoroughly enjoyed, the way she describes the hardships, the camaraderie, the happiness and heartbreaks, family life and its ups and downs have left me happy, sad, angry and elated and really feeling for some of the characters while actively despising some of the others. I'm now searching for my next book to listen to, although I must apologise to Martina Cole. I waited so long for her latest release but it's now on the back burner until I've finished all of Kittys books that are available

I really enjoyed it. Good read. Disappointed in the ending as it didn’t explain what happened in the end to her parents and sister Gloria.

Very good story
