In this 1962 classic, a novelistic exploration of modern crime and punishment, Alex is the 15-year-old leader of his gang of "droogs" thriving in the ultraviolent future as prophetically imagined by Burgess. Speaking a bizarre Russian-derived slang, Alex and his friends freely pillage and slash their way across a nightmarish urban landscape until Alex is captured by the judicial arm of the state. He then becomes their prized guinea pig in a scientific program to completely "redeem" him for society. If we had the power of absolute criminal reform, what, the novel asks, would this mean for our ideals of freedom and society?

This edition reinstates the final chapter missing from Kubrick's film, in which Alex is on the verge of starting a family as he reflects on--and completely rejects--his adolescent nastiness. It also includes Burgess's introduction "A Clockwork Orange Resucked."

With a smooth, almost lyrical, crisp voice, Hollander delivers Burgess's nadsat dialect to readers with such rhythmic cadence that listeners will easily understand the extensive slang used throughout the book

This was intoxicating to listen to. The narration was pitch perfected and made the Nadsat dialogue of the text an easy and understandable listen which is no easy feat as for a first timer to this book it can be a little jarring but this was so well done and the best reading of the novel I have heard to date. Well worth your time of your humble narrator oh my brothers and sisters!

I love that this audiobook contains also a one chapter read by the author himself as well as foreword explaining differences between various editions of the book in the world. Magnificent work by Tom Hollander as well. A treat to listen if you can stomach it that is :).

Great story brought to vivid life by spiky first person narration reminiscent of Kubrick's character for those who loved the film version.
A unique story way ahead of it's time and the droogy slang works particularly well in an audio book version.

Anthony Burgess has written a masterpiece, despite he not considering it his magnum opus, I surely do. His language is a as sweet as the milky chai we in this book, and hit wit is as razor sharp has Alex’s old Britva.
A wonderful story about violence and youth, or maybe violence IN youth.

Tom Hollander was fantastic and I do hope he does more work for Audible. The way Tom could travel from cockney hard edged accents to eloquent snobby upper class accents was absolutely hilarious.
This is by far one of my all time favorite books and I couldn’t have asked for a better Humble Narrator.

My favourite book and I dearly wish he had read it all, delivered as he imagined it and moulded it into A Clockwork Orange .
I’ll take a glass of Moloko and synthemesc, drencrom or velocet and then happily itty out on my oddy knocky into the chill winter bastard with my pods in my oomnys while listening to his golloss .
The main narrator does a good job but influenced by Malcolm and of course how couldn’t he be ..
