I recently raved about A Black Woman's Guide to Menopause Daily Affirmations, and I am now happy to rave about this companion book. As I mentioned in my prior review, it seems odd that there is a reluctance to talk about menopause and worse that there is more stigma for black women. Yet here we are, so this book is critically important. Through five curated, guided meditations, author Jasmine Wrright seeks to reduce stress and physiological symptoms, create a deeper internal connection, and generate a sense of self-love, self-care, and empowerment.

Each meditation (about 10 minutes, give or take) begins with relaxing music and a progression to deep relaxation. Once this is achieved, you hear and repeat affirmations relevant to the goal of the particular meditation. The five meditations cover Embracing Menopause with: Grace and Strength, Inner Peace and Empowerment, Harmony and Acceptance, Resilience and Renewal, and Grace and Empowerment. The accompanying pdf contains the meditations as well, so you can use them wherever you are and whether or not you can use audio. Wright encourages you to repeat and reflect on the affirmation and to journal your thoughts–all great advice. The narration is supremely soothing.
