Summary
It’s November 3, 2020, and Emma McMasters has just been elected the 46th president of the United States. She’s facing a divided Congress and nation, allies that no longer trust America, enemies that have been emboldened, and the legacy of destruction left by the last administration. She must rebuild and reestablish trust in government, in the media, and in the electoral system, all the while carrying the mantle of first female president, and along with it, the hopes and dreams of millions of women and little girls who need her to prove that a woman can get the job done.
Palmer Estes has devoted her life and her career to the military, rising to become the highest-ranking female officer in the US Army. An enigmatic, battle-tested hero, she’s the perfect choice to brief the new president on one last, urgent, highly sensitive mission before she retires.
Two strong women, both driven to serve the country they love, neither prepared for the sparks that fly between them.

I loved this book...
Whilst the plot may be a bit predictable, it’s a romance novel, what would you expect. It is well written, intelligent, thoughtful, hopeful, engaging and thoroughly entertaining. I grinned with recognition at thoughts and feelings I’ve experienced. I laughed and cried as the characters lives unfolded. I cared what happened to all involved. I loved this book and am about to start listening all over again. :)

A real find
What I liked about his book was that it was not rushed in the beginning. The author took the time to develop the characters and their lives. I also liked the fact that the sex scenes were "chaste" because the sex was not the important part of the story, the connection was. An unusual story since the profile of the heroines were so high, not your usual FBI crime connection.

Loved the strong characters
I thought the storyline was interesting and it kept mine throughout...
The characters are both strong, intelligent women... discovering their feelings for one another.. dealing with complicated situations, showing self worth & pride... quashing the stereotypical viewpoints and surprising those that stand against... being on this journey with them was enjoyable..
Abby Craden narrated yet again unlike any other... making you part of each character... allowing you to feel their emotions... asif you are under their skin...

It would be a dream come true
Lynn Ames wrote a wonderful dream that hopefully one day will be possible for the US and the world.
It would be a real step in the independence and freedom of race, party and sexual identity and preference for the election of a President and the development of the people to bury their prejudice and hatred.
Following Emma's path is exciting and also involves a lot of political arguments and discussions.
It's not your average, easy love story, but it's still a sweet and heartwarming one because Palmer and Emma are just so cute together.
They have to overcome a lot of hurdles and encounter enormous hatred.
Abby Craden's voice once again made this audiobook a pure delight!! Especially Palmer's deep voice...swoon!

McMasterful!
Wow, Where to start? First, the storyline was a much-needed respite from the divisive politics currently in the United States. E Pluribus Unum!!! Emma McMasters is the 46th President of the United States. The first female elected to the highest office in the land and, bonus points, she's a lesbian!
Four-Star General Palmer Estes is in the twilight of her exemplary career as the highest-ranking officer in the United States Army. Only after she meets the newly inaugurated President Emma McMasters does she truly begin to live a full life.
Lynn Ames crafts her characters into such beloved figures that you just can't help but root for them. Under the microscope of the entire world, they face the landmines of bigotry and vitriol with dignity and class. Narrator Abby Craden once again delivers a McMasterful performance as she brings the characters to life. Well done. Completely, McMasterful!

Was this written by a teenager?
I was so excited when I got this book based on the positive reviews and the fact that it is narrated by Abby Craden. Man, was I wrong!
Weird political fantasy storyline with unrealistic and yet shockingly boring characters. The political speeches sounded more like satire than inspiring with frequent repeating of the latin phrase “e pluribus unum.” (Who even says that out loud?) Even the presidents name sounds like a parody of most American girl names. Also, the supposed plot twist regarding the shooter makes little to no sense.
I kept thinking that there had to more character development and stage setting but no the story just shifted from one scene to the next without much detail. The leading characters immediately starting saying I love you after barely getting to knowing each other (I.e. before their first real date). I don’t know if this is a writing or editing problem, but the book honestly sounds like it was written by a teenager. It even had a Twilight-esq wedding at the end (by that I mean forced and oddly placed in the timeline).
The flow of this book is definitely off. It was nice to have a happy ending but it felt like a lot was compromised to get us there. It is a decent first draft but needs a lot of work. Great narration by Abby Craden as always.

What a well written story!
The deeper I got into the story the more I kept thinking this was like a little love story to Cheryl (Lynn's wife). It seemed so tinged with real life. If you know them even a little you'll know what I mean. I absolutely loved this story. It did feel real. It felt accurate and just sucked you in with every minute. Not gonna lie that I wanted a little more scenes tied to the romance, but the romance to me was real and believable to how it would be for a budding romance with POTUS for goodness sakes! I also felt like this is the perfect book for a lesbian fan of Madam Secretary/Madam President (last season). Lynn's books are always so well researched and sometimes make you forget you're reading Fiction all because they feel so true. I'm glad I bought the audiobook even after buying the book and ebook because Abby did such a phenomenal job narrating. I feel like she did the book better justice than my own internal reading would have done. Well worth the investment. Another win for Lynn! loved it!

I had high hopes for this book.
Abby Craden made listening to this book bare able. I did not connect with this book and I really wished I did. The concept of the story was great but to me it did not come together. That being said, it was still an okay book because the characters were somewhat likeable. It just wasn't for me but overall a good listen.

Politics with Romance
The narrator was amazing! The politics part of the story, very well written and exciting. The only part I struggled with is how quickly they were telling each other they loved each other after only a couple of dates before they even had a real chance to get to know each other. the romance just didn't seem real. And the story was predictable, no real twist and turns. There were no sex scenes described. I am happy I purchased this, it was good overall.

That's a Wrap! One for the Ages!
Hit all the right notes for a wonderful love story. Had me smiling, laughing out loud, righteously indignant and even crying real tears at some points. The story had it all and I really appreciated the authentic presentation of the life of a woman in the Officer ranks in the military. Having it take place in 2020 and taking on the political issues of the day was great. And of course showing everyone a smart, fearless, compassionate woman can be the leader of the free world was awesome. Last but not least was the performance by Abby Craven. I could listen to her read the Telephone Book. She is THAT amazing.

potentially awesome story idea, tediously written
I was so excited when I got this book. The first few chapters didn't disappoint me. I enjoyed learning about Emma's and Palmer's lives and relationships. But somewhere along the line, the writing started getting tedious. It was awesome that the story took you into the everyday work and lives of Emma and Palmer. But my brain began to fog over at the myriad of details thrown at us. So much time was spent delving into the strategy of how they planned to rescue those hostages, that after a while, I just wanted the author to get on with it already. Also, I really didn't want to know the names of all twenty people who were at every single joint chiefs of staff or presidential meeting, or any other function either of them attended. Just too much minutiae. I loved the romance they developed, but it almost seemed to be an afterthought. For at least the first ten chapters, maybe more, there was no budding relationship between them. I love to see the romantic feelings heating up throughout my favorite stories. Sometimes, I love a slow burn that gradually builds up. This was more like a no-burn, that suddenly ignited out of nowhere towards the last part of the book. It was refreshing that there weren't repeated spats or break-ups over stupid misunderstandings, which happen with a lot of romances. Still, I wanted more details of their personal lives, and less of the tedious details about their professions. I liked the narrator, though, and she did splendidly on creating their distinct voices.
