 江戸時代に各地を治めていた藩主は、明治四年の廃藩置県によって国元から切り離されて強制的に東京住まいとなった。戊辰戦争で勝った大名も負けた大名も一緒くたに、領地は没収され、家臣は解散させられた。
最後の将軍、徳川慶喜は狩猟や写真に生きることで自分の政治力を封印した。
慶喜の兄、鳥取藩の池田慶徳は、誠実さと勤勉さで藩をまとめ、維新後も領民を気にかけ、国家に尽くし、飄然と世を去った。
