He's a better-than-a-Boy-Scout, trauma surgeon extraordinaire. Who just punched a patient in the nose.
She's the director of the ER. And is now in charge of keeping her star surgeon in line until his suspension is over.
First order of business is prying his perfect ass off the bar stool...and keeping her huge crush on him under control. Except he refuses to move until she agrees to - and then loses - a bet for 48 hours of her undivided attention.
Okay, she can handle this. How much trouble could they possibly get into in two days? And how much could she possibly enjoy that trouble? And if he simply can't be her Knight-in-Shining-Scrubs anymore, well, then she can finally move on. Because she's not into bad boys. Anymore. Supposedly.
Contains mature themes.

The opening combines high-stakes medical drama with some genuinely funny rom-com moments, and I loved how Jessica’s quick wit lightened the tension. As the story progresses, the focus shifts from the hospital to the relationship between the two leads, exploring their emotional baggage, contrasting outlooks, and what “doing good” really means.
Unfortunately, the first half felt quite predictable and the slow-burn romance moved a little too slowly for my taste. Ben’s persistent negativity also became frustrating at times, making parts of the romance harder to invest in. However, the second half was much stronger. I really enjoyed watching both characters grow, and I appreciated that the third act avoided unnecessary miscommunication in favour of genuine emotional development.
Jessica was my favourite character. Her dedication to her community, especially through the youth centre, showed that her caring nature extended far beyond her job. Ben’s journey of rediscovering purpose was also satisfying once the story found its footing.
The audiobook narration was engaging throughout and helped carry the slower sections. While I probably wouldn’t listen to it again because of the pacing and predictability, the emotional payoff made the ending worthwhile.
If you enjoy workplace romances, medical settings, and very slow-burn relationships centred around emotional healing, this is worth picking up.
