The narrator of Part 1 (the Green Gables book), Susie Berneis, is fantastic, and beautifully understands the spirit of Anne as well as the other characters. But oh dear the narrator of Part 2 (the Avonlea book), Tara Ward, does an awful Anne! She doesn’t seem to understand Anne at all, and makes her sound like a superficial, flighty, silly female. I had to stop listening which was a great shame. Tara Ward does, however, do the elderly characters quite well..... but when you have a bad Anne, you can’t bear it.

I really enjoyed this- these were some of my favourite books growing up, and the lady who narrates book book one and 5 in particular was wonderful- very gentle and relaxing listen.

However, for some reason, Anne of windy willows, and more importantly, Anne of Ingleside aren’t included. The latter is one of my favourites of the series and I’d love to know why they decided to omit them! It leaves such gaping blanks in the story..

I am not sure if this is the unabridged collection of Anne of Green Gables and Sequels but it is definitely a damn good read and well worth the credit . I only read the first 3 books and it was a delight to read the last 3 with all the pathos of the 1st World War thrown in the last book. I would recommend it to all who wish to read this old classic and understand how much Lucy Maud Montgomery has contributed to modern day fiction.
