An Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal bestseller.

For a Mountain Mercenary and a desperate woman, love becomes a dangerous refuge in New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker's novel of heart-gripping suspense.

Mountain Mercenary Hunter "Meat" Snow has a mission: eliminate the human traffickers scouring the barrios of Lima for vulnerable prey. But it's Meat who's taken down. Separated from his team and beaten within an inch of his life, he's left for dead. When he wakes, it’s to the intimate care of a beautiful stranger who knows all about survival.

Zara Layne was a child when a brutal murder left her orphaned and abandoned in Peru. Ever since, she's fended for herself on the streets, outrunning its predators. Trusting men is not in Zara's blood...until it warms to the exhilarating touch of the wounded hero who promises deliverance. As each other's rescuers, they return to Colorado for a new normal.

But when Meat disappears, Zara discovers how ruthless the past can be. With the help of the loyal Mercenaries, she's drawing on her own skills of endurance to find him. And for Zara, there's no danger great enough to come between her and the man she loves.

...but at the same time, such a good book. As with most of the Mountain Mercenaries books I read this in one sitting, with tears pouring down my cheeks. It is such a strange feeling with your heart breaking as you read about the horrendous conditions people live through, the sights the armed forces have to face and leave behind and the scope of evil that is out there. BUT the bravery and strength shown by these people, the determination of the Mountain Mercenaries (and men like them) to show respect and support to women and children whilst also protecting them and offering hope, warms the chills and heals your heart just a little.
Meat is a protector, wouldn't hesitate to protect any woman or child, but he knows instantly Zara is different, she is his to love, rescue and protect for as long as she will allow him...he is hoping for forever. But first he must trust Zara to protect and rescue him - can he go against every natural instinct he has and put his life in her hands....again?
She may be surviving but she is not living, the fact that Zara has survived 15 years in hell gains your respect, but what gains your love is her empathy, her genuine care for others and a mental strength that defies all odds. A perfect match for Meat and addition to the Mountain Ladies, we are now just missing one final puzzle piece for the family to be complete...will they find Raven before it is too late?
It is nice to finally find out who Rex actually is, I have had my suspicions for a few books now, so this was a great bonus to the book, the other is it being available on Kindle Unlimited and Audible with Kindle Unlimited. I cannot wait for the final book and for 'Rex' to join them in the hunt for Raven. I originally read this on Kindle Unlimited when it was released in 2020, I listened this time on Audible with Kindle Unlimited.

Horrific...

You did it again! I loved it! The story of Meat and Zara was great, if I hadn’t needed sleep and to go to work I wouldn’t have been able to put it down. And the ending? Perfect! It is a must read by far!

Holy shit!

I love listening to Stella Bloom, always a joy .

I did enjoy this book and as usual Susan Stoker knows how to pull it out of the bag. Meat and Zara's story starts in Peru, where Zara saves Meat.

Zara is a USA citizen orphaned in Peru from a early age and has a hard life struggling on the streets of Peru. The action starts back in the states, who is a true friend and will family be happy to see the return of her....

Meat helps Zara and the two connect. Will it be a happy ending....... oh the ending in the Bar.....

enjoyed
